Just got back from about an hour of xc skiing. It’s already getting sloppy…and we were overdressed with a sweatshirt!
But we were on skis, so it’s good!
Trekkin’ cleared us out of less than expected snowfall, so I could get out and do a less than pleasant Christmas Bird Count. Even dressed properly for conditions, we sure felt that wind screaming from the north across Lake Onalaska! First year we did the count with snowshoes, too. It’s an urban area, so not a typical approach.
The full moon kept me awake! It was fun to go to the home site at Habitat today, because it’s really looking like a house now. Most of the kitchen cabinets got installed today, light fixtures, a lot of the construction “stuff” is cleaned up from the site. There’s still more to do, but hopefully the city issues an occupancy permit in a couple more weeks and the family can be ‘home’ for Christmas.
The outside paint has to wait until spring now. This has been a great thing to invest my time in. It’ll be a bit now before the next home project begins, I’m not sure what I’ll do with my Thursdays when we have that break.
Our grand daughter has been learning to sew. She made a little flannel bag for her dolls and now thinks she can handle anything. I have been buying her a small sewing kit of her own as stuff goes on sale, and today I picked up two “easy to sew” patterns. When we have a little time, I’ll take her to pick out fabric to make one of these items. I will have to steer her to sturdy cotton and away from the glitzy, shiny stuff. She really thinks she can handle that stuff. I’ve been sewing since I was her age and *I* struggle with it! Nothing like the confidence of youth!
Oh, we’re both retired educators, so we know how that works. It’s no fun being on this end of the phone call, though. I guess mom actually followed his tracks from the house to the bus pickup to make sure he made it on the bus while she was on hold with the secretary checking things out.
Talk about feeling your heart in your stomach! We got a call at 10 that Angelo wasn’t at school. Checked with our son and he got on the bus as usual. (He has spotty cell reception at his place, so we’re the backup contact).
Our son contacted them and it turned out a substitute teacher incorrectly marked him absent. That took a few hours off my lifespan, I’m sure.
That’s weird, Jim. Did you eat or drink anything different? Glad they could help you, though.
Must be those Buck Naked underwear I keep hearing about. :O
I think they’ve added a fat tire race to the winter events up there. I know I’ve seen photos of those sea caves posted by bikers, and WAY less in the way of crowds. We’ll see what the season brings.
Total accumulation of 5-8 inches by tomorrow and warmer temps…sounds like the skis will need to head down to the backside of Vets Park tomorrow after church! Yippee!
Or maybe the fat bikes can head out. Or…maybe both!
Well, it wasn’t supposed to start, and then only lightly till late tonight, but when Angelo and I got back outside from visiting Santa and Mrs. Claus around 2:30 or so, it was coming down pretty good and visibility was reduced. By the time Angelo’s parents were here for him around 5, they said the roads are getting bad. Glad we don’t have to go anywhere.
Our younger son and his family want to get out of the trailer park, so they’ve been shopping around. They have found a place that they want to visit, and when they did the drive by, they checked out a “forest with some xc trails close to it.” Our son told his SO “I bet my mom and dad have a bunch of geocaches in there.’
Ah…yup. The house in question is just down the road from Bice Forest. If they end up in this place, maybe Pooh’s Pal can get his own GPS and take care of maintenance for us!
Fun idea, but we’re out of that one…we have dropped “caching goals” from our caching vocabulary. Congratulations to all who have reached the ones they’ve set themselves!
Just in case Santa doesn’t deliver….we are SUCH nerds. We got DVDs of all the original Star Trek series episodes AND another bunch with all the movies, at least the first batch of them. Watched episode 1 and 2 from the series tonight. Even though the sets look cheesy by modern standards, the storylines are still great…even if Shatner can’t act.
Maybe someone like Dr. Evermore could do something cool with that jack and a bunch more scrap metal.
