Debby, We didn’t go for the Treasures one, I guess I didn’t realize when looking at the map that it was in that same area. We liked that place, too. I’d like to go do a cave tour sometime. That multi was a tough find for us!
Well….in my mail today is a summons for jury duty on October 24. Trekkin’s served 2-3 times in the past but this is my first call.
Linda, Are there game farms near you? That’s really north for Bobwhite, but then again, it was really north for the Caracara, so you never know. They are being reintroduced in far southeastern Minnesota. I remember seeing them when I was little, but my last sighting was in Kansas.
Nope, we survived that one! We were at the Home Brew Fest in Richland Center yesterday with some other cachers from Milwaukee, not doing any caching. So we didn’t have to hear the outcome.
We’re heading home today, but ended our Pictured Rocks vacation in a great way. We were able to take the sunset cruise last night, but they had to cut it a bit short because of waves. We get a refund as a result, so it was a half price cruise! Then, there were two couples we were sitting near on the cruise, and they were giving Trekkin’ a bad time about his Badger cap. One guy had Michigan, the other Michigan State. Long story short, after the cruise, we all went out to the brew pub for pizza and had a great time! Number one rule to travel….expect nothing, enjoy whatever comes your way.
Our Pictured Rocks cruise was cancelled tonight due to high waves. Trying to decide if we’re able to stay another night and hopefully do it tomorrow. On the plus side, I saw my bird this morning!
Checking in from soggy Munising. We were still out hiking and the gales make the lake scenery just that much more interesting!
I shouldn’t laugh, but that was funny, Brewce!
So our Yellowstone trip was scrapped, we’re heading up to L’Anse and then Pictured Rocks this week. I remembered seeing reports of a rare bird in Munising, a Crested Caracara. Way out of range, it’s a Mexican border type. Checked this morning and it’s still being seen. Hoping I can add my sighting in the next few days!
Hopefully the drying of the last 24 hours here will make tomorrow’s picnic more fun for those going. Have fun and bring bug spray and footwear that can get wet! Jackson county is one of those under-rated caching areas, in our opinion. Hopefully conditions allow those who are experiencing it for the first time to discover that for themselves. Wolves, porkies, Whooping Cranes…..I’ve been able to photograph all of those while we explored the wetlands, trails and mounds in the area.
Is isn’t neilsville in Clark county? They’ve declared a state of emergency. There’s a house blocking the River Road south of LaCrosse. Thirty miles of the River Road are closed north of LaCrosse due to mudslides. It’s a mess in the southwest. Rain just now stopped.
The good news in all this is I think we’ve just about figured out our line of defense. Which means we can go on vacation and not have our sons worry about anything more than taking care of *their* dogs (which live with us). Hurray. I sure hope this stops, because almost the whole state has been blasted at one time or the other. We haven’t even been close to a frost, either, so the skeeters are awful!
Since the water had finally sunk in, we’re now getting… a mess more rain and really close lightning.
We now have a lake in our back yard. Sump pump is working, but this is just nuts. About two inches already. Trekkin’ has also been pumping with the small pump. And we have Aizy this afternoon for early release. Sigh.
Sometimes things work out. We’d cancelled our trip to Yellowstone for various reasons, then my high school friend messaged me that she was coming through on Sunday on her way home back to Tennessee. So she crashed here a couple nights and we had a great visit again!
I was trying to figure out why I’m tired and achy. Oh yeah. I spent the day from 8-2:30 putting in my first ‘shift’ helping at a Habitat for Humanity site. Man, those roof trusses are heavy and awkward to move! Great first day with the “Thursday crew,” of which I’m now a part.
I find it rewarding that the person who was able to place the very first cache (with permission) in one of our state parks checked in here! Thanks for your pioneering spirit Lil’ Otter!
