We decided to check out our black raspberry spot instead of the music festival…..tons of berries, all green yet! Nothing even close to ripe! We weren’t too far, so we stopped and visited Son the Elder for awhile.
So I shall be harvesting those mushrooms for supper tonight after all.
Mushrooms are so weird. We have five shiitakes that appeared overnight…and they’re big enough for meals already.
But that will have to wait, as we’re heading off to the Driftless Music Festival for the day. Enjoy the weekend!
Ha ha, I just saw that. Sad when posting bots are the newest posts around here.
Trekkin’ ended up helping a friend’s son and his wife with their move to a new place. Shows what happens when you shop local, I guess!
I’ve been working on my gardens, which have been taken over by some of my native plantings, LOL. I have been thinning black eyed susans, replanting them in a couple spots and tossing the rest, I guess. Our adult children and their families will be here later to grill brats and have s’mores. Happy 4th to you all!
We hiked over 8 miles in the Kickapoo Reserve today, I added four more “confirmed breeding birds” to the data and spotted a Cerulean Warbler, which was reported at the center. We’re about 2/3 of the way through their hiking challenge now. Monday is the day they let cars drive on Old 131. We’re thinking about it. It looked like there was some localized flooding over it recently.
Ha ha, I went with veggie stir fry. This was our “thank you” for having Poohs Pal, and Mark and Joanne’s for taking care of their pets and garden. No announcements.
Our son (Poohs Pal dad) and his SO are taking us and her parents out to eat tonight. I don’t know if they have exciting news (like maybe legalizing this relationship) or if they’re just taking us to dinner. They just got back from a music festival, where I guess people sometimes get married.
Probably just going out to eat. No matter what…I don’t have to cook.
I know this sort of model has been discussed over the years, including during my brief tenure on the BOD. If I’m not mistaken, it meets with resistance, because it would divide the state.
It seems that the state is sort of divided, anyway, as evidenced by Facebook groups like Chippewa Valley or The Wild Bunch, which is where things happen for the folks living in those parts of the state.
It might be a good concept to revisit as the organization’s evolved.
those are seriously cool wildlife sightings.
Better than TV, huh?
Poohs Pal has been with us since Tuesday night. Actually, he’s here all day M-F as it is, but this is 24/7. Today we finally had to just give in and let him look at stuff on the computer. He’s worn us out for now! We really try to keep the kids off any kind of screen when they’re with us. He and I went to Perrot for a few hours this afternoon. He hiked the entire river trail and back. Next trip, he’ll hike one of the bluff trails…and probably beat me up to the top with energy to spare!
Congratulations on the new grandson! They are the best.
Ten years ago today, we found our first geocache. I doubt we’ll be finding any today to mark the occasion. Poohs Pal has been staying with us since Tuesday, and there’s nothing nearby that interests us in the way of caches. He wants to go hiking, so we might head to Perrot and look for frogs later today.
Honestly, I don’t know how we manage to stay upright by 6PM. Pooh’s Pal has been with us M-F for years, but this year we have his cousin every other week, too. They are so close, one would think they’re siblings, especially when the bickering starts.
Raising kids is a young person’s job! LOL We got through our Fathers Day project. Tomorrow we make handprint cards to go with them and pick strawberries.
Oh, we feel your pain! I agree, the free apps seem to have caused this kind of thing to proliferate. We are now in the season of writing our “nice” emails to people who just started, visited a park and realized after the fact (probably) that we have a virtual or EarthCache there. Our standard practice is to write after a couple days with no response, a nice email with information about how these work and to be sure to ask if we can help. Nine times out of ten, we end up hearing nothing and deleting after about a week. Honestly, all we want is for folks to at least make an attempt at these. Yes, we’re retired teachers, but easy graders! [;)]
We’ve been doing a lot less geocaching and more of the things we used to do, as well as new interests. Some of that is just the natural progression in the hobby, but a fair amount of it is due to this sort of thing. We just lost another ammo can recently. Silver with a handpainted design on it and of course, clearly marked as to what it is. We have a bunch more to put out there, but are really rethinking those. Those thefts aren’t always cachers, but it still stings.
I don’t know what the answer is. Geocaching.com is a business and offering free apps that might lead to purchases of memberships and products is in their best interest, but it gets old, doesn’t it?
Or not.
