When Pooh’s Pal gets home, I hope to capture photographic evidence of that age old question…Does a bear poop in the woods?
I was out in my atlas block this morning and came across a pile of what has to be black bear poop, fairly fresh. Full of slugs! (Not the ammunition kind, but the slimy kind). Pooh’s Pal will think this is the coolest thing ever, and I can try out the new camera lens that came today. Life is good!
Never mind. Whether I like it or not, my mind is somewhat capable of techie things after all. Got the song on the iPod. I even figured out how to try and look for a geotag on a mystery photo. That camera didn’t have it, but I figured out how to try. Amazing.
Todd, Your point about the usefulness of the smartphone for your hearing loss makes me realize how quickly things have changed in the five years since I retired. I worked 30 years as a speech/language pathologist, and many of my students were non-verbal for one reason or another. Used to be, to get a device (like you’ve seen Stephen Hawkings use) that speaks for you, it was a big, computer like thing, which cost upwards of $3000 and wasn’t real helpful to ambulatory kids. The last kid I tried to match with a device, it was a small hand held thing, but still kind of bulky and not very ‘cool.’ Cost around $1500. Now, there are all kinds of great apps that can be put on a smart phone and there you have it. And it’s cool and just like what all the other kids have.
So I see the value for those kind of things. I just don’t see that I need one myself.
I just noticed that! Thanks to TBC!
They do choose the strangest nesting locations sometimes. One built a nest along the top of our fence, but right by the garage door. It looks as if she decided to relocate back to the pine trees or maybe the neighbor’s downspout. There are plenty of them around!
It’s gas. Not taking any chances with that.
Or…maybe not. On top of needing to buy a new vehicle, now our hot water heater doesn’t make hot water anymore. We’ll call the plumber in the morning to see if he can do anything with it, or we might be buying and installing a new one of those, too. Ugh. Hope we make tons of money at this rummage sale! *eye roll*
“This too shall pass” is one of those wise phrases Mom said. We’re having a rummage sale Friday and Saturday. It’s probably been at least 20 years since we’ve done this. I don’t love these things, at least the work in holding one. Trekkin’ really digs it. So this is a week of going through stuff and trying to set up, so we can sit in the garage for two days hoping to make a couple bucks, when I could be out birding during peak migration.
Sigh. I think this is what they were talking about with that “for better or worse” stuff.
Thank thanks for the explanation. I’d hate to see it go as well, but understand that people like TBC and MTCLMBR have lives, too. Thanks to both of them for taking on the technical stuff to keep our site alive.
BBG, That completely sucks. Especially the financial part of it. I’m sorry to hear that happened to you…and to the kids who’d hoped to take part in it.
That sounds really cool, BBG!
We hiked about 4-5 more trail segments in the Kickapoo Reserve today.
Early morning awesome birding with our local club’s spring bird walk. Mid-morning awesome hike in a favorite place to find a cache, which was surrounded by all manner of wildflowers…our way of marking the “birth of geocaching day.” We saw no naked hikers out there today.
Clouds moving in, soon to pick up grandkids, and it will be perfect for getting the Audubon newsletter done if we’re getting rain.
Spent four hours surveying my block for the breeding bird atlas. I spent quite a bit of time watching a pair of Pileateds checking out a nest hole. I hope they move into that one. I also had a Common Raven. I see them there in the winter, but this could be a cool one to confirm breeding here. There’s also a warbler that was seen there last year that we hope can be confirmed breeding. Not a Kirtlands.
Fun question…
For us, #1 was June 2006, #100 was April 2007 and #1000 was November 2007. We saw the game start to speed up that second summer of our “career,” and within a year of that, things were really speeding up as far as things being placed.
Congrats on the grand! Bats are cool, but you knew that!
