Congratulations on the new grandchild, bartrod! They are the best!
Even with all our hiking yesterday, I was sleepless in West Salem. Chronic insomnia. I’ve tried all the things suggested to combat it. My dad is the same way, and so was his mother. I think it’s genetic.
Sorry the prom was so boring. Better than that horrific one in Antigo a week or so ago, though. Someone I know was at that one photographing her grandkids and it’s just…..sad for all in that town.
I should sleep well tonight. We hiked over 9 miles on the IAT up in Straight Lake today, and the eastern segment of that trail has hills to behold. We also met a couple along the trail who are volunteers and own adjacent land. In chatting with them, we learned that a significant chunk of their land will be transferred to the DNR to add to Straight Lake Park, and to the IAT, to allow land passage there.
Oh, I hope the fridge issue can be dealt with quickly. The yard terrorism is probably an ongoing battle, though.
I should have four less degrees showing, but when project gc updated, it credited the one degree I found last night, but not the three I got and logged earlier in the day. Weird. Might just get one more on the way home today. It’s all silly, but it’s fun to have one of these that requires us to do a bit of searching before we qualify.
We have 4069 finds in Minnesota, including completing their Delorme and county challenges. You’d think that would be enough to have all 360 degrees, especially since visiting family in Minneapolis should net us lots of caches close in to the center. Project gc hasn’t updated, but after today’s finds, we should now sit with 334 of 360. Maybe I can pick up one or two more on my way home tomorrow.
Aren’t statistics fun?
Usually I’m not so into challenges of that type, but that checker does something cool. If you click on one of the zones you lack, it brings up the qualifying caches on the map, and you can click on them from there to see if you want to bother or not. Mom and I just got in from our nice dinner at Good Earth, then we drove around the edges of Rosedale. I was disappointed that not a one of the four were skirtlifters. In trees, on the fence. I wanted Mom to see the glory that is “skirtlifter.” *eye roll* And to demonstrate how tight that degree is so close to the center point….of the four I found, only one helps the missing degree. The actual center point is probably a mile or two southeast of Rosedale.
So….when I’m “home” in Minneapolis, we usually skip the urban hides in favor of the park preserves or stuff beyond the big city. But I solved a puzzle or two that were staring at me from the little lake across the street and decided….it’s cold, windy and drizzly, perfect day to find stuff like that, let’s see what other p/g stuff I can try to find in the old ‘hood this morning.
I learned that….the Grain Belt Brewery is now one of the Minneapolis Public Libraries. The apartment near the U of M where two of my friends lived and I spent untold hours is still standing as is…in spite of all the yuppie stuff that’s gone in around there. There’s now a community garden near the cruddy empty lot where we used to put pennies on the tracks and wait for the trains to go by.
Later I’m taking Mom out to eat. I told her she has to sit in the car and ride shotgun while I drive around Rosedale to find some skirtlifters. There’s this challenge, you see…..GC54WYC I’m really surprised we weren’t closer than we are. When I ran the checker, we had 330 out of 360 degrees. We should be down by four or five before I head home tomorrow. [;)]
Happy Birthday. You know the drivelers wouldn’t steal your birthday FTP!
They breed down by us, Jim. I’m guessing the same is true up in east Sandland.
True that, jar.
What to do, what to do? I’ve been missing my storytelling tribe and the conference is this weekend in Lake Geneva. I’m trying to decide if I should sign up to do just one workshop and enjoy some concerts and connecting with friends. I have to travel up to Minneapolis…again…for a couple days tomorrow, so that would be a lot of time on the road.
On the upside..I thought I’d thrown a weight on one of my wheels. Turns out there was a chunk of rubber on the inner side just flapping away. I needed new tires anyway…but don’t know if the budget could handle them AND storytelling fun in the same week. Sigh.
Congratulations Jim (and Bill). Despite what the captions say, Bill is smiling and happy in those pictures…which is good to see!
So I’ve heard. 😉 Congratulations Jerre.
So….it’s decided to rain. We were planning to do a hiking cache north of Winona and sink to new lows by also doing CITO, so we can get our souvenir. *eye roll* There’s a long standing CITO event in Minnesota where one can spend 30 minutes doing CITO anywhere and get the “event.” It’s going to be archived soon, but was from the early days when the MNGA was trying to build a good relationship with the parks. We were up north last weekend, and didn’t want to drive three hours (at minimum) this weekend to do CITO. The one in Willow River yesterday would have been a good one, because they were clearing out farm junk from an old dump site. I really like the ones where you do some hard work that makes an immediate difference. Trash cleanup is a good thing, but there’s part of me that just bristles at the notion that others can behave poorly because we’ll clean up after them.
Can you see I’m stalling so I don’t have to do any inside chores that have gone waiting????
I know what you mean. While we don’t like to discourage new people to the game, it would be nice if they had a better clue about the process. There was one like that here. We were out searching all over with another team, and the coordinates were no where near anything that made sense, so we looked all over in that little pocket park with no luck. Trekkin’ was out a few days ago and did find it…..stuck by the garbage can. Really??? There’s another local hider who could use some help, but won’t accept it. We’ve decided his aren’t fun, so we just ignore them now. No sense of placement at all, and usually way off as far as the coordinates go.
We spent the day hiking in the Kickapoo Reserve. Wow, the spring wildflower show there right now is pretty awesome. We got a different view of the EC cave, too.
