We had solar rooftop panels on our house when we bought it for heat. They weren’t installed by a professional and led to a lot of issues with leakage into the house. Sad to say, they came off when we re-roofed after cleaning up the rot they’d caused.
I do know a few folks who have managed to be off the grid. Usually through a combination of solar, wind and wood heat. Kind of like our feelings about hosting a celebration event….we’ve gotten lazy, as the wood stove went, too. Properly done it’s great. Ours wasn’t properly done. [:(]
In the meantime….there’s a tornado watch here right now. Trekkin’ is out burning off energy exploring. Where the heck do we go in a house with no basement? (I’m not too concerned…it’s just humid with cold air behind it….so they issue the watch).
Congratulations! We have not requested any of these “deals” from gc in ages….no virtual, no Adventure Lab, none of those things. We were offered the AL but said….meh. We have some virtuals we adopted from Lil’ Otter and at times owning one of those is more trouble than it’s worth, with armchair log enforcement and such. We talked about requesting one of those events, but decided we didn’t feel like planning one. Lazy, we are!
Last night I had my first dream about forgetting to pack something for our month down south. We leave early Friday morning….I think that shows some good subconscious restraint on my part!
Don’t forget bug repellant…and sunscreen 🙂
And sunglasses 🙂
Sun? What’s that?

XC skiing again today…..broke trail, wrong wax, worked up a sweat. More like xc trudging, but it’s always good to get out there. Two more birds for the “year list,” too.
I really liked the photo you guys shared on FB this morning! Beautiful!
Thanks, I’ll pass that along to Trekkin’….it was his photo. The ones I took are still in my camera, LOL
But……he thinks he wants to take a step up with his camera and suggested I upgrade mine and give him the one I have. He may regret that statement!
I never learn…or care! We finally have some snow for xc skiing, so….I headed over to the Experimental Forest this morning to take advantage of that. Of course, since I hadn’t been out yet this season and LOVE xc skiing, I took the long trail.
Boy, do I feel it now. But in a good way. Trekkin’ and I were out before that for a hike along the LaCrosse River to enjoy the hoarfrost. I think I should make some cookies now!
Tragedy in Oconto yesterday…four died in a fire 🙁
🙁 I saw that. So sad . . .
Never good to see that kind of story.
We’re on the low end of the snow predictions here as well. Maybe three inches more? I’m tempted to at least drag my skis to the sheltered trail by the lake for a bit. The winds are not nice now, but this too shall pass. I did walk to the library to pick up three books written by a Natchez author that are set in that area. I’m calling it “research.”
Jim, Chalk it up to online weirdness. I’ve given up ever trying to understand why some things on the computer work the way they do…and when.
In other news…..we enjoyed another hike out to ice caves in the Kickapoo Valley Reserve today. Same cave as the past few years, but some of us also opted to check out another along the way. Funny thing, when we were out there last year for this, we both commented on “maybe there’s another one there.” Guess the trip leaders checked that theory out. Ice formations are nice, but not what they’ve been many previous years. Fun hike and there were some Wausau area geocachers there, too. nyttimer, I think is what they said. If the weather’s decent next weekend, we might just go explore on our own. We kind of know how to find them ourselves, having done this for so many years now!
I have to log in every so often. I view the site from my computer, not a phone (which I don’t own).
We saw the Steep Canyon Rangers in Viroqua last night. Wow, were they awesome! Once the show was over and people were getting up, we realized some friends were literally right behind us, so we got chatting as we slowly left the theater. Ended up chatting with the band’s bass player for a long time along the way. Fun night!
I had ‘all comments’ chosen as well. Facebook is just weird that way. I don’t know if the Wayback Machine would work to “restore” those comments or not. Haven’t tried. Have to go help tear apart floors or cabinets or something soon, so it’s not a big priority right now.
The internet is a strange place. There was a discussion taking place on the WGA facebook page about getting people to take on a board position. I know I had added my two cents in there somewhere, but even expanding all the comments in that thread, mine seems to have vanished. I know I said a couple things here as well and maybe I overlooked them, but the facebook comment disappearance kind of underscores why social media isn’t always the way to go.
But we’re heading to TX again next week…will have to monitor from afar.
Safe travels to you…and what a mess in Oconto. Has anything like this happened there in the past?
It’s been about a year and half, for various reasons, since I worked as a construction volunteer with Habitat. They have a huge salvage project the next couple weeks and I just signed up for some hours with that. I’ll see how things go; maybe I’ll get back on one of the construction crews again.
It does seem that the social media sites get more action, but there are folks who aren’t on those sites, too, so there needs to be a way to include them, rather than excluding them. As to why there isn’t more interest in running for the BOD….can’t answer that one for you. I did my stint and enjoyed my time, but I’m involved in other activities now.
