Officially, Every caching day is a CITO day 8)
Jay Mills brings up a couple of sets of policy here that need a bit of historical reflection to understand. 1st – The Wis DNR policy was established through a cooperative effort of the WGA and the DNR. 2d – way back when we placed our first Milw Co Park Cache (3/03) Red Squirrel in Brown Deer Park, we sought the blessing of the Parks Dept. I sent an e-mail to the Parks Dept asking about their geocaching policy. They were prompt to reply that the “Parks are yours to enjoy” that we should stay away from the golf courses and that we should “replace the dirt” when we are through. We took this statement to mean that we should stay away from the golf courses, leave no trace and have fun.
To the best of my knowledge, that is the closest thing any geocacher has gotten to a policy statement from the Milwaukee County Parks Department. Since that time, geocaching has grown and Sue Black has joined the Parks Dept. It is that growth that makes the county reluctant to respond, but having Sue Black there may be a great advantage for us. For now, I would say let’s do our best to work with the county. There are good things on the horizon.

Dave…
Great work!
I am sure that this list will get a lot of use.
~tbHmmm, thinking hat on here! We might take votes by response to such a message rather than open voting on the WGA page. If you don’t get the email, you don’t get to vote [you didn’t give us a valid email address]. A notice might be posted in the forums that the email had been sent and if it has not been received, the member would need to update their membership data.
As kbraband pointed out, College kids would have little interest in a geocaching event. You need to know your audience to form a successful marketing program. Offer line dancing and you will get a different crowd than if you offer boccie ball. Offer many temps and you will get a different crowd from those who love the challenge of a good puzzle cache. All of the suggestions that have been made will bring people to the event, but real success for the event depends on defining the population you want to attract and tailoring you program to meet their interests.
GCGVCF was originally placed by lisavemt. We had met her at an event a couple of years ago. Then we heard that there was an illness in the family and her activity ended. We sent her an e-mail a few months ago and there was no response. Lisa has a couple of caches in the Shawano area, perhaps Team M might check on these as well. Any news on Lisa would be appreciated as well.
GCQHJ7 Wandering Wooded Hills seems to be fairly active and popular. I don’t see any notations indicating the need to disable. Perhaps there is more to the story.
02/05/2007 at 12:07 pm in reply to: Cast Your Votes In The 2007 Board of Directors Election #1769362BTW, if you are undecided on a few, Vote for the candidates you can support. There is no mandate to use all six of your votes and there is actually a slight mathmatical advantage for those you do vote for if you don’t vote for others. In any case make your voice be heard. VOTE.
There is a time and a place for most anything. The WGA CITO event in Milwaukee comes to mind. During the hour before the event, I placed 9 temp caches; each was a zip-lock freezer bag with a log book in it. The last wave of litter collectors removed the caches as well. The total time the caches existed was about four hours. I believe that if one is to expect greater service than that, a zip-lock bag is inappropriate.
When the weekend comes, it is time for us to get out and do some geocaching. There have been times when we have not been able to, but we usually make the effort. We went out in single digit temperatures with double digit wind speeds with Geoffnsara and the Folk Trakers to score our 1000th cache find and enjoyed every minute of it in spite of the weather. Yesterday, Trudy & I went out and braved 4 degree temperatures with 20 mph winds to seek out a dozen local caches. (we found one). The bone chilling cold was cutting through several layers of clothing and fogging the glasses making the most nobel efforts futile. We had set aside 4 hours for cache hunting and managed to stay out for about 2.
One of our favorite warm weather adventures was in mid-June of ’05. Trudy & I each scored a Friday off and decided to take our oldest granddaughter on a roadtrip. We left Milwaukee Thursday evening and within 72 hours had covered 2000 miles. We visited Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Illinois before returning home. MaryAnn (AKA Ginger520) discovered Perkins Restaurants and came to realize The difference between McDonalds Fare and real food. While passing through South Dakota we got a Phone-a-friend call from Geoffnsara looking for us at a Racine event. And somewhere in the middle of Iowa we found a cache that was last signed a week earlier by Natloh2. How great can life get?
It seems to me that back in 2002-2003 there were a number of ammobox geocaches that relyed on batteries, wires, lights and sounds for special effects. Perhaps a few of our members have narrowly escaped the wrfath of the media and the law. [eg: GC696E, GCB1BC].

Thank you Jennifer, and PCFrog for your part as well 😀
This issue is a very critical one. I look forward to seeing a better director than I replace me, as I believe every exiting director should. This is what will give strength and vitality to this organization.
I want to see a real passion for this job in our candidates. I look for it here and [HINT] in the candidates profiles on the BOD Election page [4th from the top at the left]. When I see a candidate visiting these forums daily, I am pleased. When a candidate visits reach 4, 5, 6 or more days apart, I am not going to give that candidate serious consideration. I do not take it lightly when a member of the BOD misses serious issues because he/she just didn’t get around to visiting the WGA website.
