Use a PQ specify the center at zip 49635 [Frankfort, MI]; distance 70 miles; Wisconsin caches only. Load it into GSAK and manually lop off all caches with Lat less than 44 40.000. That will leave DC only.
My personal opinion is that the icon should only be used when the cache is hidden in a ski lodge, with a good fire going in the fireplace and a pot of hot cider nearby. 😀
Whenever a geocacher undertakes a project in the interest of numbers, there will be a temptation to compromise ethics or art of the sport. An earlier project [by a board member] resulted in a number of caches being placed on DNR managed lands without obtaining permission. Some series have resulted in placements that were not such great locations, some on private property without permission, etc. I hope that the nine cachers involved have’nt lost sight of these factors.
Bill, We are wishing you our best.
Trudy & the beast just kind of morphed from Rudy eats beets. This is good because neither of likes beets, nor do we know anybody named Rudy.
If you want a comprehensive list, The Complete Idiot’s Guide, appendix G lists over 50 items. I personally prefere to travel light.. Compass, GPS and flashlight. Anything more than that is an option.
Get a Mobil Platinum MasterCard. Charge your Mobil Gas on it and get a 15 cent rebate on every gallon.
Gusty was known to a number of geocachers from the beginning. Any member of the board would have access to his identity. Gusty was conjured to allow an active geocacher to remain active in the forums while “on the clock” with a muggle employer who could not identify Gusty, but could identify his alter ego. Nuf said. Thank you Gusty.
Domestic abuse is no joking matter; but this is just too funny. Let’s call it snack abuse. 😆
I have shared in similar mis-adventures as well. I even have a few scars to show for it. But, if one is to speak of a “favorite,” it would have to be the time we returned to the car; Trudy said “hold still” and then she pulled a 2-inch thorn out of the middle of my forehead.
How about 6 GPSrs
losing a great pen and a GPS in the same day. Now where the h… did I park the car?

We tried to “hint” to our local media here before the appleton CITO but it never got picked up as far as I was aware.
very nice story. great job.
I am not convinced that the Appleton press wants positive stories about geocachers/geocaching.
04/18/2009 at 3:28 am in reply to: Public Service announcement….it’s okay if you DON’T find i #1906088We have been known to log a DNF here and there, sometimes more than just a few in a day. I believe We may be the only team to log a DNF on a locationless cache. we normally try again, sometimes again and again to redeem ourselves. occasionaly the effort is futile, sometimes not.
We have been using our Nuvi as an aid for a few months now and admit that it can be a powerful tool. We use it to get us to the nearest parking and as our paperless data source. However, It is not a good idea to take it on the trail. Our Garmin 60s are better suited to rough treatment and rain, dew and puddles that may be encountered on the hike. The Nuvi can hold cache data for THOUSANDS of geocaches, but that data is no more current than your last PQ loaded. So, you may find that keeping the pages current will require a greater investment of time than you originally thought.
Bottom line… The Nuvi is great as an aid, but our 60s are our work horses.
