Elation for those joining the board, congratulations!
Regrets for those leaving the board,
Disapointment for those who have volunteered, but must now wait for another opportunity.Thank you, all of you for being willing to go the extra mile to help make the WGA the best. ~T&tb

Thanks, ForeFeathers … I needed a good laugh [Did I show you how to do that?]

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
In fact My Garmin 12 [$119] generaly locks and holds a lock on satelites much better under cover than my Garmin Map 76 [$350], our Garmin 60’s [$375] do a good job under cover.I don’t know much about Magellan units other than their corporate HQ is Paris, France.

I was doing a little solo caching in Illinois yesterday (This stuff never happens when Julie is with me to keep me straight). On my way from one park to another, I stopped to grab the “Welcome To Illinois” cache, located at the former location of an historical marker (interesting concept…) Well, the cache is located literally 5 feet from highway 45, so there was no way I was going to stand there and sign the log. I took it back to the truck to sign it. Of course, it was kind of overfull, and the log was at the bottom, so it took me quite a few minutes to sign in and put it all back together again. Then off to the next park about 2 miles down the road, which happened to have two caches. When I arrived, I looked over to my clipboard to see any cache details before heading out and saw the “Welcome To Illinois” cache hitching a ride with me! Oops! Drove back quickly to the site to replace it, but I hope no one tried to find it while I was carrying it around.
This is known as a “brain fart.” It happens to me all the time. It’s a lot like locking your keys in the house or in the car. I once drove out of one drive on a gas station just to drive back into the station at the other drive because I realized I hadn’t paid for the gas… [Fascinating look on the attendant’s face]. I think it has something to do with age.

Off the subject, yes, but I like it. I think someone else mentioned making park benches that could be donated to parks. I can forsee making a bunch of these benches with an engraved nameplate on the backrest- “Donated by the Wisconsin Geocaching Association- N42 37.698 W88 07.712”.What a great way to promote the sport and open doors with parks!
I couldn’t help but notice that you put the first one on your favorite park…
Maybe we can have them made with a secret compartment for a log book that only Premium members would know how to access…
Love the photos!

…
That is a good question..
First we need to determine how big our organization is going to grow. We are still a very young organization. it wasn’t very long ago (Jan 03) when we had our organizational meeting at the Tristing place in Germantown. There were only about a dozen of us there maybe a few more.
Then we need to determine what our future needs are going to be (Web hosting is currently being donated). We haven’t attempted a long term budget yet. For the short term, we have been doing well. This has been due largely to the generosity of a handful of people who haven’t been tooting their own horns nor complaining about the burden they have been carrying.
The geocoins by the way, was the first real profitable exercise of our organization. Numbers are available by personal correspondence with the treasurer. The treasurer’s report should be released to the membership shortly after board approval (Feb 19).
To give you a short answer…
How much money does the WGA need?
I don’t know.~tb

How can we make this work, or won’t it?
pcfrog sees a problem here that he did not see with groundspeak’s premium membership. Do we need to add more to the mix to make it more attractive? What does gc.com offer that makes the difference. Some of us are already making sizable contributions to the organization and some have been doing this for quite a while. Others make very small contributions or none at all. And, yet there is no distinction; who does what. Some need no recognition for their contributions, others would like a little return. How can we float the greatest number of boats?
There are a number of other events that can generate a false sense of the size of the membership roll. (1) each member of a caching team is eligible for membership (2) There are several members that do not live in the state (3) members have been enrolling with cache team names that do not match their gc.com team name (4)….
The list goes on. A truthful estimate of active geocaching teams that are Wisconsin residents and members of the WGA is somewhere between 300 & 400. If you look at this as 300+ ambasidors of the sport, this is a huge organization. If you are going to look at our size from the standpoint of not all cachers are members, keep in mind that not all seniors are members of AARP. We need incentives to belong, beyond the fact that it is free.

Try setting “File” “Page Setup” from “Portrait” to “Landscape”
The oldest surviving cache in Wisconsin is GC3B1 Pike Powder Hike by kbraband
If you intend to seek it, the direct approach is more difficult than following the trail to the top of the hill.

Does any one have a READ-check? I am wondering what an edit on a Bar stool is.
