We have cached in all parts of the state, and love it all. Most of our caches have been in SE Wis, because that is were we live. We don’t miss opportunities to get to the other quarters whenever we can.

Trudy & I also logged Four Windows and What in the world, but we changed our logs to memos. We have no need to pad our stats with virtual finds. We also had a recent visit from our German Friends [CaLLiBRi & Jazzy ] since nobody else is pointing their finger. They have been making a tour of the States, logging virtual caches from coast to coast. Since their only Wisconsin cache is Don’t look at your hands, it is a bit blatant. perhaps I should log a virtual find at each of their hides, since they wish to play by that set of rules. I don’t have time to deal with them at the moment (I’m late for work), but I will deal with them tonight, after work.

and only 20% of the “active membership” voted in the second round of the logo referendum in the first place.

Maybe the rest of the membership: a) doesn’t care; b) thinks the issue is silly; c) is unaware of the issue because they aren’t active in the forums.

Is it time for another poll?

Part of this issue is the fact that we as individuals have different hot buttons. No matter what would have been selected for the logo, there would be dissent. The BOD has made a decision, and we should be willing to accept it. A long winded defense of the logos that did not make the cut, that finished second is doing nothing to promote the new logo. It is now ours, accept it and play the game… It is time to move on.

              Defending the decision.

As I see it, the first round was to find the best contenders if the logo is to be changed. The second round was to see if the best contenders were actually preferred over the current logo. At that point, we the members, left the final decision up to the BOD.

The issue of similarity to the WA logo was brought up when the first version of the new logo was introduced. We have heard no comments about similarities of other states logos to one another, and there are a few of those. This change has been in the works since I was on the BOD, I do not think it needs to be debated any longer. We put the power to make a choice in the hands of the BOD, they have acted in an honorable manner, their selection is bold and fresh and I believe we should accept it w/o any further P&M. As I see it, the matter is finished!

Well, Ray, want to predict anything for 2009?

Wow it took me a while to get things going again after my computer took a holiday [died].

Actually, I have given up on the predictions since the growth of geocaching has exceeded my wildest dreams. Now, I stand back and watch in absolute amazement. It seems like yesterday (New Years day 2003) when WZBT03 became the 300th Wisconsin geocacher and we had a whopping 600 geocaches in the state. Things were quite a bit different then. Today’s neophytes never saw the clever stories on cache pages by jthorson or sbukowski. They never saw cache pages that included a little midi tune such as Miata was so well known for; or the clever cache containers like “Jingle Bell Rock” or the caches of BJbest or badlatitude. I wish that we could take today’s cachers back to enjoy some of those early experiences. Today, I still enjoy the hunt and the huge selection of caches to choose from; and the host of new friends we meet at every event. Some of the novelty may have been lost, but the excitement still consumes us.

I think this may be a smaller problem than these voices I hear; and they aren’t even talking to me. 😉

Duh! The television was left on. 😆

Just a curiosity question. Does anyone know who 9Key is? They are from Texas, not a WGA member, doesn’t appear that they have ever been in Wisconsin, but all of their logs show up on the WGA recent log page.

We know that the WGA recent log page tracks activity of Wisconsin cachers while they are out of state. It looks like this Dallas cacher was somehow identified as being from our state.

As a small boy, I remember the family gathering around our big old Philco radio. Dad would dial in http://www.Pandora.com and we would listen to the Tans-Siberian Orchestra play Holiday music. 😆

When I went to College (stone age) all of our classes were about geology. We just didn’t call it that. Any kid studying “geology” was a total geek (we called them nerds then).

We hunted benchmarks many years BG (before Geocaching). This was a family activity for us when our children were the age that our grandchildren have now attained. At that time, Earth caching to us was “sight seeing” and presented little challenge compared to hunting BM. This is the reason I see a vast difference between the two activities. I have to agree with AstroDon, Benchmarking should be in a separate forum.
