Sorry we can’t be there… We will be on our way to Florida for a few days.
Does anyone here have the connections to set up something similar for WGA?
This looks like a really cool event.I am totally amazed at the depth of experience related by the technogeeks on this board. I thought that having the experience of having once held a 1K magnetic memory core in my hand was unique. Now, that I read where the rest of you guys have been, my experience reading octal code and programing in LINC assembly language is rather humble. I started in the mid-70s as well. Teletype, papertape, punch cards, programs and data on casette tape, I have been there and I really am glad it was short lived.
My first computer was a Sinclair 100 I picked up for $40. My first REAL PC was an XT with 64K of memory and a 40M hard drive. I bought it about two years after release at a cost of about $2000. Times have changed! but it is fun to reminisce.
tbDid you ever…
Notice that your computer’s numeric keypad is numbered wrong? The phone and all of my remotes are numbered from the top left as one might read a printed page. My computer’s keys are numbered from the bottom-up. And, the zero is on the bottom on all of them.Wyzat?

I remember that.. I used a bit bucket to carry the data. Then we got our 300 baud acoustic modem. Were we living high! I loved watching the little lights on it.

My favorite RTUG story is about the guide for a FAX/Modem that was available on-line. If I could retrieve the UG on-line, why would I need it?
tbRTUG Read the users guide!
If you can figure it out Ken, I could use some help here. I have a half-dozen user guides for VCR, Digital camera and the like that I havn’t been able to decypher.[This message has been edited by Trudy & the beast (edited 01-30-2003).]
Brian, Ken,
I made an attempt to identify stewards of the lands on which we found caches and hope this will be of help.
of 227 caches found
80 – not readily identifiable
30 – on privately owned land
17 – on state managed land
111 – on land managed by city/county/other gov agencyThis data is retrospective, I did not collect data as we cached.
RayMiata is quick!
We want to add our kudos as well.
Congratulations Randy!Socko’s first find was 500 days ago today.
Yesterday He logged his first cache since discovering the loss of the majority of his caches in his neighborhood. I believe that we should be happy that he hasn’t given up on the sport.
Sorry, I really didn’t think I was being that cryptic.

Brian,
I have a number for you:
as of 5:30 tonight, Dan Miller has counted 1434 people/teams that have logged at least one cache in Wisconsin.
RayTo quote Cheesehead Dave, “73.8% of all statistics are made up on the spot anyway…”
The numbers you are looking for may not be available. I could give you some educated guesses, but their validity is seriously questionable.
Cachers number about 1000 of these no more than 40% are active (cached in any 3-month period). up to 5% of the logs I have seen at the cache have not appeared on the web pages.
The number of cachers appears to be growing at an exponential rate. we have rather few that have been involved for more than a year. There was a good number that joined the ranks in the spring of 2002 following the April JS article on caching by Stanley Miller and a March news item in the Oshkosh paper. There was a similar increase after Christmas 2002. Visitors from out of state also contribute a good number of finds on a regular basis.Caches on state managed lands may be tough to estimate. For many small preserves, I couldn’t tell you who manages the lands. I suspect that it may be a larger number than I would estimate. Ephraime Wetlands – State? Jingle Bell Rock – State? Petrified Springs – County?
Of the 200+ caches we have visited, I recall entering no more than a dozen State “Fee Areas”
To make a long story short, I enjoy playing with the numbers, but I have no hard numbers on the stats you need. Perhaps, if you take my perceptions and combine them with the perceptions of others, you may be able to come up with some more meaningful numbers.

I still think we should contact “Spideruser” of the Chicago group and see if we can’t set up a paintball event. We could call it “shoot the moon”
