I have all 11 pages on mine filled with applications…I am kind of an app addict. 🙂
The ones I use the most are the Facebook and Twitter apps, but like RSplash said, you can find an app for just about anything you want to do.
And I will second the vote for Geosphere. I absolutely *love* that app and it makes paperless geocaching so painless and easy.

When either Aaron or I find it, we either say “Got it!” in a happy tone if we haven’t been looking too long, or we say “I got it…” in a really grumbly voice if we are annoyed at ourselves for taking so long to find it.
I guess it’s just always been our rule that when one of us finds it, it’s found. But in cases of *really* clever or well-hidden caches, whichever one of us finds it might back off, tell the other person it’s a good one, and let them look for it.

So much for my “Crack Pipe Travel Bug” idea… 😆

Could have sworn I have answered this, but I guess not! And a few people have asked about the name, so here goes!
When my ex-girlfriend and I got into geocaching many years ago, we were also running a web page where we would rent *really* bad-looking horror/slasher films and write a review of them. Since lousy movies are called “turkeys”, our website was called “Turkey Time Theatre”.
So that’s where “TurkeyTime” came from. 🙂
And man, we watched some bad, bad films.
After Natalie moved away, I went for a year without geocaching. Then, my friend Aaron came out with me one day and became instantly addicted to it.
Since the two of us absolutely love eating (on a day of geocaching, where we’re planning on eating is ALMOST as important as the caching itself), we thought that “TurkeyTime” was a foody enough sounding name to still work pretty well for us.
    So that’s the story. 🙂

Maybe just for today, people who planted caches can stand out by them, wait for geocachers to come by, and tell them whether they are “hot” or “cold” as they walk around the area looking for it…? 🙂

Heading out to “iF” & “New Math” waiting for MAthman & Sandkanders to show up. 😆

    Ha ha ha! 😆

The site seems to be up right now…and everything seems to be there!!! WOOHOO! 🙂

Funny you should mention that, Averith…
I just read this news story the other day:

    http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/165126/gps_system_could_begin_to_fail_within_a_year.html

Now I read this morning that it’s NOT true and that the GPS system will stay fine, but other people are arguing that.
Man. This is a scary time to be a geocacher. 🙁

in reply to: Geocaching.com Down? #1905670

    Argh. This is awful.
Woke up sure that the site would be back. 🙁
Is this going to have a name, like “Black Friday” or “The Fire on The Fourth”, so we can tell future generations of cachers that we were around during this situation?
The worst part is that I had a PQ downloaded for the city we planned on heading to tomorrow, but I deleted it, figuring I would just download a new PQ today with the newest info. I wonder if I would be able to use a recovery program like Recuva to un-delete it? Hmmm.
I do feel sorry for Groundspeak…I bet they are sweating bullets over this one. And the last thing you want is rioting geocachers! People would be getting choked with GPS straps and beaten with walking sticks.

Although, the thought of everyone starting out again at 0 finds does sound rather…intriguing. Team TurkeyTime could finally be tied with all the heavy hitters!!! 😆

Anybody watch the video? No kidding — all data could be lost: pictures, profiles, etc. Hopefully geocaching.com did a back up at some point! 🙄

Oh man. I don’t like this. I hope you are kidding.

Wow…I seriously understand the power of Twitter now.
After coming back from a morning of geocaching and tying to log our finds, I couldn’t believe that I couldn’t get on the site! Not knowing what else to do, I searched for “geocaching” on Twitter and was caught up on the news within minutes.
    Technology is cool.
Now…can the site come back up? Please?
I know (and hope…god, do I hope) that it’s an impossibility, but what would happen if Groundspeak’s entire collection of geocaches was somehow erased? I know that a ton of people would be able to help by uploading their GPX files and whatnot, but I wonder what percentage of caches that would restore?
I think I am going to save all my pocket queries now. You never know…

I’ll second the vote for Geosphere. I downloaded it last week and it’s amazingly useful to me. I am using it on an iPod Touch (i.e. no wireless signal in the field), and I mostly wanted it for going paperless…not as a GPS.
Being able to create your own folders and move caches around in them is quite helpful.
    I love the app!

    Congrats, BQ! 🙂

Wow, this is really cool! It looks like it works wonderfully.
    Thank you! 🙂
