Try maintaining caches hidden or disguised so well that you have to search for 1/2 on your own cache to do the maintenance! That’s the NEMESIS series, but I love it so no complaints. 🙂
I have none on my ignore list. Funny, never noticed the option before.
Last day of work. Vacation tomorrow!

I hadn’t heard of anyone removing a container that was muggled before, but I have heard of cachers ADDING new containers (pill bottles, 35mm, etc) for those that HAD been obviously muggled.
I had that happen. Instead of telling me the container was missing, they placed one (40′ from where I placed it) and took credit for the find.
Just recently had someone add a log sheet to a NEMESIS cache because they didn’t find the one hidden in it. Thankfully they went back to the cache and remedied it.
When caching with the fam or friends, or group hunts at events, we use the term “Finders Tree” when we find a cache.
Say I find it, I’ll back off a good ten feet, then yell finders tree. That way, everyone can see the general area, but still can make the find on their own.
PLEASE, no used golf balls! 😆
10/27/2009 at 6:51 pm in reply to: Do you carry a knife while geocaching? If so, what kind? #1915833I carry an Masters of Defense Automatic, James Keating Hornet. But then I don’t just carry it for caching, it’s on me whenever I leave the house.
I’m not sure if something like that will fly with the reviewers or not, but it sounds like fun! If it doesn’t work out, you could try something like this. This is my sons first puzzle cache.
Been there too, and the few times I contacted other cachers about bad placements, poor containers that didn’t last a week or bad coords, It felt like I was being arrogant even though it wasn’t my intent.
I did learn long ago, that posting my issue nicely in my log or in a note seems to go just as far with getting things changed, without the downside.
On the fence here as usual.
I carry log sheets and baggies with, but I’ll only replace a log sheet if I’m certain the owner won’t mind. I have on occasion changed a really full or damp log so I could sign a new one. But in all of those cases, I’ve contacted the owner after the fact to find out if they wanted the old log or not. If they do, I’ll get it to them, if not, it hits the circular file.
As for my own caches, I do like to keep the log books from most of my caches. My NEMESIS series, puzzles, and my COTY winner cache are all logs I would hope no one would get rid of. The rest, which these days leave almost none, I don’t really care if I get the log back or not.
When in doubt, change the log, contact the owner. If you’re not willing to go to the effort, no biggie, just leave the log where it is.
You have to take the good with the bad and not sweat it.
We do our absolute best to get accurate coords for our caches. Averaging, and sometimes using two different brands of GPS just to make sure on our NEMESIS series. This being done, we still get complaints on occasion that the cache was 15′ or so off. Sometimes far more than that. GPS is not exact, hence the accuracy +/- reading on them.
I’ll search more than 100 feet out regularly, because I hate coming back for a cache I missed. It’s also become habit through the years because I came into this sport hunting caches hidden by a friend that is generally pretty far off. You know who you are, and I’m still waiting for a new series!
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll bring it up in the web-site committee forum and see what we can do.
Personally, I like the slide show or picture of the day idea.

….That I have:
6- .50 cal ammo boxs
4- .30 cal ammo boxs
1- VERY large ammo box(the size of 4 .50 stacked 2×2)
2-large Zip Lock containers
30- HCH containers( A bit larger than the Ziploc containers)
2- small Lock & Locl type containers
2- small Ziploc containers
and a couple of odd ball size containers.
I know I have a few peanut butter containers stashed somewhere inside the house, along with aabout a dozen large micro containers. What to do, what to do……….
Sounds like it’s time to plant one hell of a series.
I use the icon on any cache that I feel the difficulty rating I’ve posted to the cache page, would not have to be changed due to snow depth. I use the crossed out version for any cache that I know not to be accessible in snow. But then I only have used it a few times, and currently on only one cache. Match Head gets disabled for winter because it’s usually buried in 3-5 feet of ice at the end of a breakwater on Lake Michigan.
We use both a 3D Maglite and an Inova X1 Emissive Energy light. The Mag-lite works well but batteries go dead quickly, especially in the cold, which is when we tend to do night caches. The Inova is far superior and every way. Size, durability, brightness, focus, light color and battery life. The emissive energy diode will likely outlast me and my future grandchildren for that matter. And I’ve had the same 2 AA batteries (lithium ion included) in it for two years now and still as bright as new. The drawback is price. Plan to spend about $50 for the X1, but you won’t be disappointed.
