The purple one. Caching has taught me there is more than meets the eye.

hmmmm, and in the Bermuda Triangle too. I smell conspiracy! 😆 😉

It wouldn’t surprise me if you could watch it right at Lambeau on the scoreboards. At the very least, you can for sure watch it at Curley’s inside Lambeau, but I’m guessing your going to need a reservation. Waaaaaay in advance!

Thank you for these questions Brian, I had hoped they would be asked, as this topic in general, is something I feel strongly about.

I believe we all run into both of these situations in every day life, and I’m sure I will react in the same manor when either of these situations arise.

First, if given the opportunity to serve the members of the WGA, I’m sure I will be approached as any board member would, with varying thoughts and opinions from the members, of which I will still be one. I am also quite sure, I will not always see eye to eye with each individuals opinion, that is what makes it their opinion. My duty would be to listen to their opinion or concern, whether I agree with it or not. Present them with options, and communicate that opinion to the board if necessary. Board members are held to a higher standard in my opinion, and need to present themselves well while representing the WGA.

Question two is also something we all deal with in everyday life. If my opinion varies from the boards, so be it. This happens all the time, and that is why there is a board, to make decisions as a team, and for the whole, not the one. If my opinion were not adopted, Id deal with it and move on. That is not to say I wouldn’t put up a good fight before letting myself be outvoted. 😉

‎1. Go to Google Maps and click on Get Directions. 2. Write USA as your start point. 3. Write Japan as your destination. 4. Go to the 31st point on your route.

No response from Magellan as promised so tomorrow I’ll be calling the credit card company to “Dispute the charges”. Maybe that will give me the leverage I need to return this dysfunctional product. I don’t like doing this, but they won’t even talk to me at this point and won’t issue a “Return Authorization”

It’s magellan. Don’t expect a response, and I don’t just mean a timely one. I’ve used magellan as my handheld since I started caching in 2006. I’ve been waiting for a reply on an issues since spring of 2007. I’ve made several call backs, and still no answer. Yes, I gave up after just one year but…

Mine seem to be working. I’ve been getting notifications of people doin my breakwater caches even though they’re disabled. Brave bunch!

in reply to: caching in Wisconsin #1942015

I’ve been a resident of WI for 40 years, since birth, and I’ve traveled pretty much the entire state, but never been to the LaCrosse area. That is my next stop on the caching tour. I already have a few must do caches for the trip. Now I just need to get there.

I’d say Door County, and Wisconsin Dells have been my favorite caching areas, and I definitely plan to do more caching in both spots. For me, caching is about the destination mostly. These areas have brought me to some spectacular places I never would have seen if there hadn’t been a cache there to guide me.

in reply to: WGA Events & Temporary Caches #1941601

Thanks for another good question Shane.

This is a tough one. This has been an issue here at the WGA since I joined, and I’ve ridden the fence on this one the whole time.

On one hand, geocaching is what you make of it, and I believe it should be played the way you like it. For those people that feel that this game is about the numbers, then it should be about the numbers for them, and they should be allowed to log temps.

On the other hand, this subject was debated for a very long time, voted on by the membership, and adopted by the board. Currently, we don’t log temps, and it’s seems thats the way groundspeak would like it as well. If however the membership wants to review this again, I’d support taking another look. Personally, this subject carries no weight with me. I could log temps, or not log temps. If the membership wants it, than they should fight for it and I’ll support whichever decision is made.

in reply to: Regional CITO Events #1941610

I have attended CITO events in the past, both within geocaching, and out. In fact the very first one I attended was in the nature preserve right behind my place. It was in spring of 2007, right after I started caching. It wasn’t a geocaching event, but MANY local geocachers showed to help. It’s amazing that a park that seemed so clean at first glance, could cough up so much garbage.

I’m proud of the WGA for sponsoring these types of events, and I will encourage the board and membership to continue. It cleans up our parks, it dramatically helps the image of both geocaching and the WGA, and it’s a heck of a lot of fun too. 🙂

There is currently a CITO being formed here in SE Wisconsin for this spring. I’m hoping very much to be involved, and hope that SOMEONE contacts me soon with the details. 😉 Jake? 😆

in reply to: Event Planning #1941831

I typically hold one geocaching event a year in SE Wisconsin. The event has grown through the years. It started with about 20 people, but now around 50 attend. I enlist the help of many Geo-friends to pull the event off each year.

Outside of geocaching, my years in banking as a branch manager, were filled with event planning. Either within the bank for employees, size ranging from 10 to 150 people, or outside the bank for clients with attendances from 20 to 200 people. These events were usually catered, but the rest was up to me and my staff. I know how much work event planning can be, but it the end, it all seems worth it.

in reply to: Why Join the WGA? #1941773

I can answer both questions with one statement. I would encourage the cachers to join for the same reasons that I did. I would never force the WGA on anyone, but I would explain that before I found the WGA, caching, although fun, was just caching. I met a few people on the trails, like we just did (hypothetically) but when I stumbled across the WGA on the web, I found a home, full of people who enjoyed doing the same things I did. many of them had hobbies outside of caching that were the same or similar too, and I’ve made some great friends along the way.

Of course I’d throw in a few tidbits of the benefits and resources of the WGA as well, and I’d encourage them to discover those things, as well as the friendships and camaraderie that the WGA offers.

in reply to: COTM vs. Favorites #1941628

    Thank you for your question.

We worked very hard and took all opinions into account when re-working the COTM and COTY, and though everyones requests weren’t feasible, we hope we made it better for all.

My vote is yes, we should keep it. We have made it a more fair contest, based it on population density, and hopefully gotten rid of sock puppet voting for good. All these changes, and many more, make it a great place to showcase our favorite caches. Besides, where else are you going to get a cool new ribbon to hang from your cache page? 😆

in reply to: Maintaining and Obtaining New Membership #1941589

Thank you for your question. The membership committee, of which I am a member, has been working on retaining membership, as well as establishing new ones.

In this past year, we have revised the new banner, and made it easily accessible. As well as asked the membership to assist by using it more on their cache pages. As part of the web comittee, we revised the banner to include local events and news, and make it easily revised at any time for that use.

There is also a new member email campaign that we worked on. Unfortunately, the response was seriously lacking at only 3% and the effort was discontinued, as it was done manually and time consuming. We are searching for new ideas and ways to make this work, or any new ideas that anyone may have.

Retaining members is another story all together, and something that we still discuss. It has been found very difficult to retain someone that has left the WGA, and we believe at this time, as with most web communities, it is time better spent finding new members, then trying to get back people who left, for more reasons then there is time to list. This is not to say we have given up. We are still searching for new ideas, and welcome suggestions at any time.

Would there be a problem having a WGA CITO held the same day as another WGA CITO event?

We (the local cachers in Racine/Kenosha) were looking into having one in Racine on April 23rd. I see that the Appleton CITO is the same day. We had planned it for earlier, but the park and rec gave us a deal on a shelter with running water if we had it on Earth Day.

We talked local caching legend (is there such a thing?) brkster into listing the event…you know, to give it a little star power. However, our local coffee/geocaching group, the Belle City Coffee Clutch is splitting up the responsibilities.

Jake, I’d be glad to help out with the CITO in any way I can. You have my number, fill me in as you plan, or I can help with that too. 🙂
