Global Warming Hoax: As I said, neolibertarian network

Middleburry.com: Yes, well if a town of 8000 people in Vermont say everything is OK well then, we can all relax

Moonbattery.com: Uhm, I haven’t seen that many John McCain ads since I watched FoxNews last night. Definitely not politically motivated. 😯

The National Post: I fair rebuttal to my post from The New York Times. 😀

Your wiki list, and we all trust wiki right?: This is a quote from the beginning of your list:

This article lists scientists and former scientists who have stated disagreement with one or more of the principal conclusions of the mainstream scientific opinion on global warming. It should not be interpreted as a list of global warming skeptics. Inclusion is based on specific criteria that do not necessarily reflect skepticism toward climate change caused by human activity, or that such change could be large enough to be harmful.

The first man on your list. And this is a direct quote from his paper titled “A cool look at global warming”

Human activity in burning coal and oil, and clearing forests has, over the past century, put an enormous amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere where it has combined with water vapor and other gaseslike methane to increase global temperatures in an unprecedented way.The evidence that this has occurred is clear-cut, and the increase intemperature will have, according to our computer models, dire effects onthe planet, causing the melting of polar ice, the raising of sea levels, droughts, floods, storms and desertification. We must put an end to thisprospect by changing our way of life lest catastrophe strike us. It mayalready be too late.

I urge you to look up the names on your list, and read what they have said about global warming/climate change.

Were talking science here, do you have any scientist on your side. Any verifiable ones I mean. Any that are part of a global consensus? I’m still looking to back up my 98%statement, and so far I can’t. But it is clear from the G8 summit, that the world governments agree there is an issue, and everyone of them have taken steps to correct the issue. It’s a shame our own government/country, the biggest polluter, is not getting involved. This as the whole world laughs at us.

You’re quoting from the Neolibertarian Network? I think that speaks for itself. I thought we were talking science, not politics.

I think this is a brand new site, but I may be wrong. Has some new stuff!

    GeoCheck – Cache Coordinate Checker

Nice find! I specifically like the counter they provide that shows right and wrong attempts. I’m going to give them a shot with my next puzzle.

Just to throw a wrinkle in, a good percentage of climatologists scoff at the idea of gas content in antarctic ice being the root cause of temperature increases and decreases because there is no evidence of directional causality from CO2 to temperature. There is merely an observational confluence of the two phenomena. It could just as easily be that it is the warmer temperatures causing the increase in CO2.

Ah, right. As I scientist I can see that makes sense. I’ll try an experiment this afternoon and see if heating atmospheric gases produces CO². 😯

The current acceptance of climate change by climate scientists is 98%. Only 2% are still debating this. Is the earth still flat? 2% of our population believe that as well. 😯

just a question- the rainforests, for example, are being replaced by cropland

not? additionally, if said rainforest is replaced by cropland, then aren’t those crops taking in CO2?

Yes, the grasses and cropland taking the place of the trees produce roughly 2.5%-12% (dependant on crop) of the O² the trees did.

So, does that mean that geochecker allows you to put in coord after coord until you get it right? That doesn’t sound right to me.

And what if you are working on several puzzles? Geochecker does not care which puzzles you are verifying. Evince does, and will lock you out of all puzzles after one attempt, until the time limit is up.

And do you really care if someone sits at his computer and plugs in set after set of coords looking for verification? I don’t.

No, I guess I don’t. But I also would not like it much if cachers were using geochecker to solve my puzzles that I spent so much time on. I’m not even sure if this is possible, in fact, it’s what I was asking.

He’s a thought too. If ya don’t like micros, don’t go find them. There ain’t no one forcing ya to look for them!

However, they are also hurting Geocaching for the newcomers.

I dunno about that. If it wasn’t for the challenging micros this sport provides, I most likely would have gotten bored and given up quite quickly. I’ve also had many newcomers get their first finds on many of my micros. They’re all still with us.

Before you think this is purely a rant, I invite those who are frequent hiders of micros to explain to me what the appeal of hiding micros is. Why do you enjoy hiding micros? Is there a reason you prefer placing micros instead of full sized caches? I really want to know.

I guess because folks in my area seem to love them. If they didn’t they wouldn’t continue to search for them, and they surely wouldn’t keep asking me to hide more.

This topic seems to come up every few months, and the replies are always the same. What it comes down to is a matter of taste. If you don’t like micro’s, don’t hunt them. 🙂

I believe the votes speak for themselves on this topic. If our votes don’t count, then why bother voting?

Please, no comments about the 2000/2004 presidential elections. 😆

PS, no offense to the artist, but I do think the stylized “g” logo is it bit “girly”. And although Dave’s logo is similar to the Washington logo, I still believe it to be the most bold design. I’d personally rather keep the old logo than start using the stylized “g”. Unless it’s the aforementioned green and gold version! 😉

How do these scientists know that we are not just warming up yet?

Because scientists analyze the gases trapped in arctic ice to determine what temperature the earth was at a given time. They compare that to the amount of CO² in the same samples taken. The measurement is precise enough that they can look at the CO² levels and accurately predict the temp and also do the reverse with complete accuracy. CO² levels directly effect planet temps. The earth CO² levels are higher now than in any sampsles taken from the ice. The earth is a greenhouse, granted a big one, but it will heat up just like a greenhouse does. It will just take longer.

What about carbon dioxide? Plants breath it in and breath out oxygen. Is that not helping cleanse our atmosphere?

Yes, it is, or was. It’s too bad we as a people cut down 60,000 square kilometers (about the size of Ireland) of tropical rain forest every year that are not replanted. This does not include farmed trees, or trees cut anywhere else. In total, we cut down and do not replace 115,000 square kilometers of trees per year. So, yes, the planets lungs are shrinking.

in reply to: Blank emails from GC.com #1891943

I think I solved the problem. I use Outlook Express for email, and noticed my encoding was set to “Unicode UTm-8”. I have no idea if that’s how it always was or not, but changing the encoding to “Western European” made my email texts from GC.com reappear.

I’m thinking the encoding may have been changed during a windows update just the other day. Wouldn’t surprise me. Although I still find it odd that this happened only on GC.com emails.

    Oh well, problem solved.
