Seems like yet another way for people to get in touch with me.
No thanks.
I ordered my new computer with XP installed. I updated the driver as soon as I got it, using the driver update feature on the computer. It said it was the most recent driver. I thought I’d give it another try through the Prolific web-site, but the page won’t display when I go to downlaod. I’ll try again later.
Afetr a very short call (10 min or less) to Magellan Customer service, they have my meridian working good as new!
Way to go Magellan, it’s about time!!!

I do understand it is just very frustrating at times the other thing that I do not under stand is why they do not use a ID that and inform us as to where they are because I think it would be nice to know if I am talk to someone that live in Madison or Hayward it would just be nice to know because if they live in the area they maybe able to understand the area better just a thought because their ID says nothing as to where they are some background would be nice
The reviewers may not be from your area, but they were chosen to be our reviewers because they are of some of our most seasoned geocachers.
Remember that they are volunteers, and that they are following strict guidelines.
That said, I know how frustrating it can be to have issues with cache placements. And that frustration is compounded when there are delays in getting responses from the reviewers, although they both seem to have quick turn around times to me. But here is one last thing to remember. The reviewers are people to, and they have lives just like you and I. You cannot expect them to be at your beckon call when you need them. Getting angry will not speed up the process. Being patient might.
Anywhere but Bong in September.
Bong would be a great location for a WGA Picnic, but September is the height of tick season there.
Maybe in a future year we could plan a picninc there, but in Late July early August when the Ticks are mostly dormant. (probably just avoiding the heat) 🙂

What do the reviewers use to calculate distance from point A to point B? Does google earth or google maps allow for this?
Google Earth works well, but it’s not faultless. (Right Dave 😉 ). I use it before placing any cache, to get an idea of what is open, but it’s not perfect.
The first thing about GE you have to remember is that when a cache Icon pops up, it’s never in the right spot. So, first, find an area you want to place a cache, and put that WP into GE. The, click on all of the surrounding area caches, and copy their coords from the cache page, and paste them into the GE browser. Then take your measurements from there.
Also remember that there may be puzzle caches and stages of multi-caches nearby that you must also avoid. Solving those puzzles, and doing the multi’s are the best way, but in some case, you can contact the owner of those caches and see if they’ll provide their coords.
The best advice I’ve seen is what Team Deejay wrote. Write up your cache page, then click the link that lists all the other area caches. If you’re good there, you should be ok, except once again, for the puzzles and multi’s.
What would be fantastic is a database that you could type in coords and give you a yes or no result, using all the info from GC.com including puzzle actuals, and stages of multis’ . This would have to work like the Evince coord system though, where you only get one shot every 10 minutes. Otherwise you’d have people triangulating to find puzzles.

You can download the most current ROM on the Magellan website. You have to register to get it, otherwise I would get it for you. To return your GPS to factory settings, hit the menu key, then select Setup, Clear Memory, Reset to Factory Defaults. (Amazing what you can find in the manual!)
I found that after some digging in the manual last night. Didn’t help. The only difference I can see is that all my WP’s are gone. 🙁
May be time for a new GPS.
Performance Update:
The unit is drifting, and not in a good way like a performance car.
I started at my home coords, and just sat. In about two minutes it said I was 65 feet away. So, I followed the compass around to the back of my hous, and to the new GZ and zero’d there. Waited a few minutes, and now it said GZ was 70 feet back the other way.
So I took a new WP right where I was standing, then put it in as a got. When I did, it said I was 6 feet away. It drifted a foot for about every 3-5 seconds I stood there. After about 2 minutes, I was 70 feet away again.
Is my Magellan drunk?
@Team Deejay wrote:
Before giving up, change the batteries, reload the ROM, hard reset the unit and see if it gets better.
How do you reload the ROM and how do you hard reset the unit.
I’ve emailed Magellan support. I’m sure they’ll get back to me by 2012.

The GPS worked just fine last week, and has been sitting in it’s mount since. What could have possibly gone wrong?
That mount it was sitting in for a week… would that have been in a vehicle? Parked out in the sun?
No, it was inside the house where I always keep it.
Congrats you guys! And welcome to the parenting club. There will be a bit less time for caching this year, but just think of all those diapers you get to change! 😆

I’ve known about geocaching since a friend of mine started back in 2000-2001, but just FINALLY justified buying my own GPS unit and recieved it a couple weeks ago… our family is hooked now too!
Been out the last couple Saturdays (the only two since we got the GPS) and having lots of family fun.
Just joined WGA a few minutes ago and wanted to say Hi!
Welcome to the addiction. Now get out there and hide a cache!!! 😀
Don’t forget the audio upgrades.
A pair of 15 jackhammers and a 5000 watt amp will add several hundered pounds to the car, thus increasing handeling. Not to mention, if you point the subs out the back of the car, you get the added “bass boost”!
Gas hit $4.19 here in Kenosha today’s for regular. Both of our cars take premium, which is now $4.39. 😯
Just saw a report on Fox6 this morning claiming experts say gas will reach $5.00 a gallon by Labor Day.
Why is there no puking emoticon???
How come no one has come up with a vaccine for Lyme yet???
