Way to go Dave!
I have a close friend who is a cameraman for a local news station who was there to film this cats “capture”. A lot of the footage you see of the incident on TV is his.
From his description of the events, the police and area residents were fearful for their lives. So, it’s no surprise that they killed the cat, rather than darting it.
However, in all I’ve heard on the day’s events, I never once heard mention that any animal control was even involved, or that tranquilizing the cat was ever even considered.
The cat was no doubt traveling to find a mate, but wound up dead instead.
sad.
This was very sad news indeed. Topped off by the offender who should have known better, not to mention had just been convicted of his 3rd offense DUI just a few days before the accident.
They had better throw the book at this guy, because when he gets out, he’ll just do it again.

I need no incentive to come spend time with friends and hunt some caches. I see no difference in logging one attended log for finding 10 temporary caches. This is no different than when we log one find for finding 10 stages of a multi-cache.
What a terrible shock it was to read of this on this morning. Steve was a great guy, and fun to cache with. He was a quiet guy, but always wanted to take the time to get to know the people around him.
Steve, you will be missed. I’m thankful for times we were able to cache together, and for the times we shared at some of the local events.
Peace Steve.
The Geo-bike at “Border Crossing”.
I love to bike-n-cache, and I’d do it a lot more often if I could get TDSGal on her bike. Then again, maybe it’s the bike. I bet that’s why she’s been eye-ballin’ my Trek from her Next. 😉
Hmmm. She’s got a birthday coming up!
WOW!
This thread doesn’t look like it’s going to solve anything.
My mistake, I’ll just keep my seat on the fence.

Ummmm, they already count. Did you mean log them so that they don’t count?
I think the OP is suggesting a new class – of cache – called temps and you can log them as found, not attended.
Exactly

I guess by definition it’s a puzzle:
“a toy, problem, or other contrivance designed to amuse by presenting difficulties to be solved by ingenuity or patient effort.”
at least the “patient effort” part and the “amuse” part make it a “puzzle”
we had a laugh when we saw the picture… reminded me of those “stare at the famous painting” emails where the ghost face shows up and it screams.
You mean like these?

I want to log all the temps I find, it means something to me.
This is why I wish Groundspeak would code something into the site to account for temp caches to make them logable.
GC.com already gives you the ability to add additional waypoints to cache listings. (e.g. Parking location, trailhead, etc.) I wish they would add a “temporary cache” type that you could add to an event cache to list all the temps, and then give you a way to log them in some fashion, and still give you a total for the number of temps that you found on your profile page
That would solve the problem permanently. Couldn’t the board put together a proposal and present it’s case directly to Groundspeak?
Congratulations Jacey7487!
Welcome to the addiction!

Question for you guys and girls i was surfing around on the wed and i ran across this site Buxleys Geocaching Waypoint is this a real site. For some strange reason i thought all Caches were located on GC.com and there was nothing better. so my question is is there any good sites to go read about caching and read about others who cache. i know it sounds stupid but just wanted to know
There are other geocaching sites as well, but they are not as good by a long shot. There is Terracaching and Navicaching too.
There is only one other I can think of to rival GC.com. It’s called Big Bob’s Bulletin Board of Caches. definitely the easiest caches to find.

To change what zoom level these show on the map follow these steps: from the map screen press menu and select setup map. Now highlight map setup- Points(third icon from left) & change the Map points setting. One issue with changing this setting is all your other POI’s(the ones that come with garmin map products) also use this setting, so your gas stations, restaurants and other points will also show up at higher zoom levels.
Any idea how to change this on a Garmin C330?
