Got mine yesterday!!! Cool coins! Look for them in a cache near you…

… I’m guessing Riddler will be giving some away.

Think injected resin or plastic rather than aluminum.

The difficult part will be to find one that’s easy to use, and one that lets you input your own coords.

I had my Father use my Garmin c330 a couple of times now. He’s 76 and still can’t figure out caller ID, or how cell phones can work outside of your house. But, he can use the Garmin quite easily.

You can put in your own waypoints, called POI’s, but it will not show you any coords.

Greetings, and welcome to the addiction.

It’s too bad there wasn’t an option marked “both” or more than one. We use a Garmin in the car to get us from park to park, and a Magellan Meridian Color to get us to the cache.

I’m waiting for my test unit to come in the mail. but from the web based pic, I already have a few observations.

First, I see that it straps to your body and hangs in front of your chest. This would seem to obstruct your view of the ground. A bad thing when bushwhacking.

Second, it seems really close to your face. People with glasses will no doubt get tired of removing their glasses to see their GPS, thus negating the usefulness of the holder by taking back that free hand.

These are just observations without having the actual unit in hand (on chest) so maybe things are different.

I was kind of hoping this would be a wrist mount of some kind. One with a swivel on it. When walking, you swivel it to so that it’s length follows your forearm. Then, swivel it perpendicular when viewing your GPS.

I would like to add some pictures and/or color typing, larger print, etc… to jazz up the page for the $1000.00 event. When I went to put the picture in it worked fine, but it really messed up my paragraphs – ARGH! 😯 Everything was totally messed up. So I went back, took the picture out and now my margins are really narrow which means the page is longer. Then I had to go back and put in the paragraphs again, etc…

Can someone please explain – in simple terms – 🙄 how to make the cache page look nice? I would like to be able to update people with the upcoming announcements with a different colored font, etc… so it attracts attention as well as put some pictures on the page.

    Thanks for any help! 😀

This has happened to me in the past as well. It’s like an invisible piece of code is stuck on the page somewhere. The only way I could get rid of it was to remove everything from the page and start fresh.

This does not mean all is lost though. Cut and paste everything into MS word or something similar first. Then paste it back after you’ve completely removed everything from the page.

    You should also use

    instead of
for paragraph spacing if you aren’t already. justifying everything seems to help as well.

Also, when adding a pic near the top of the page, it tends to interfere with all the GC.com stuff (inventory, bookmarks etc..) on the right side of the page. Adding some spacing (
) above the pic to bring it down lower on the page, makes a world of difference, and makes for a better alignment.

It answers all the questions it needs to:

    State shape = who, where,
    Ammo Can = what, why,
    Tree = how.

IMHO it’s missing something important. Like, who/what is it for? Seeing that logo for the first time just now, I’d have no clue it was an ammo can at the bottom, nor would I know who the logo represents. I actually still don’t know. Other than they are from “up north”.

It’s a good logo, but it would be a great one it it said “Minnesota caching club” or whatever.

For all we know, it could be the “We Live in a Box Under a Tree in Minnesota Club”. 😉

Go to the Minnesota Geocaching Website and you will see the logo “bug” (the graphic element) placed in several spots on the site. In each instance, the bug has the text “Minnesota Geocaching Association” next to it or below it.

However, there are time that a logo bug needs to stand alone and why I would attempt to get the acronym in the bug itself – it leaves less in question. Really strong loog’s don’t need that, but we’re not talking about an international or national logo here. Now, obviously, if this stood alone, you wouldn’t know what it is for if you saw it for the first time and you might identify it as the “We Live in a Box Under a Tree in Minnesota Club”.

But if you had seen it anywhere before with even a little bit of frequency, you would instantly recognize the logo if you say, saw it blown up 500% and placed alone on a t-shirt as a stand-alone graphic.

There is power in simple graphics.

    Exactly.

PS I like the way your logo is shaping up. I mean that literally as well as figuratively. The way the tree is now shaped like WI is really nice. A few less leaves, and actual leaf shapes would be nice. And a bit less color too. I think you’re on to something with it for sure.

I agree with Seldom Seen that we need professional help. (Heck, people have been telling me that for years. ) Also like Seldom Seen, I’m also in the graphic arts business — as a creative director and editor — and I understand that logos require a process. That’s why I suggested that the time line as now set up by the board is too short. Zuma said it would be difficult to change the time line now, but I don’t understand what would be difficult about changing it. Other than the general feeling among some people that “we need to get something done” I don’t think there’s a hard and firm need for the present deadline. I know a trained graphic artist who is willing to work on this pro bono and will be able to start working on some ideas in late May.

Well then, free is a good thing! Get him started.

I think the members of the WGA should still be the final word on which logo gets the go, even though the professionally done one will most likely be the best. It’s already better than mine! 😀
