I think it’s a good idea, But KFC? Kentucky Fried Chicken is what I think of.

Also, don’t forget, there is an attribute made specifically for this. In fact, you can do your PQ’s based solely on that attribute.

Just a thought. I’m not putting down the idea at all.

Yikes, I just realized how few of my 57 caches are kid friendly. 😯

I’m not waiting for anything… I think we might get down to the Racine one. Would be nice to get down there for a bit of caching. My wife’s family is from Racine.

Please try to make it. Bring friends and family. People that have never cached even. The more the merrier. We’d love to make this event huge!!!!

For those of you that don’t know what is planned. Here is the itinerary:

    Date: Saturday, May 10th, 2008

    Time: 12:00PM to 12:15PM

Where: Monument Square in Downtown Racine

What: A 15 minute mob of geocachers. This event will last 15 minutes, not one second longer! This event will be one small part of the WWFM (World Wide Flash Mob) event. This event (and all others around the globe in their time zone) will begin precisely at 12:00PM on Saturday, May 10th.

At 11:45 – 11:59AM participants should wait patiently in their automobile or stroll around the area. STAY AWAY from ground zero! As much as you can, act like a muggle.

At 11:59AM make your way to the event coordinates.

At exactly 12:00PM (as determined by your GPS clock and a whistle blow) we will place a bucket for log sheets near the coordinates. As you arrive, we’ll hand you a “log sheet” or feel free to bring a small piece of paper with your name already written on it. Participants will sign the log sheets (which will later become the log book). To qualify for attendance, drop them in the designated bucket (near the coordinates).

At 12:05PM, on my signal (me yelling…”Has anybody found the cache?”) we will all get down on our hands and knees and begin looking for a non-existent cache (think lost contact). I will select one attendee prior to the event to end the search with a loud “I FOUND IT!!!” at 12:06PM

At 12:07PM we will draw one name from the bucket to see who gets the FTF prize

At 12:10PM we will gather for a group photo in front of the MONUMENT

At 12:14PM, there will be a 1 minute warning whistle. At this time you will begin to prep to leave, but don’t “look” like you are prepping.

At exactly 12:15PM (another whistle blow), the log sheets will be packed up and sealed away. the event area will be evacuated without a trace.

Events that happen after 12:15PM DO NOT COUNT as part of THIS event. If everything goes right we will have lots of people coming out of nowhere and gathering for 15 minutes, hold a geocaching event, and then dispersing…. This could be lots of fun and maybe even raise a few muggle eyebrows!

Remember to check your GPS clock; you are in the CENTRAL DAYLIGHT TIME ZONE!

in reply to: Tent Suggestions #1885902

We have a tent made by Jeep. Well, it’s marketed by Jeep but I’m sure made by someone else. It’s the best made and designed tents I’ve ever had/used.

The rain fly hangs way out to the sides and blocks all the rain (we had plenty while camping last year. In fact, I thought Rogheff was following us around the state) and still lets in large quantities of air.

The tent also has cyclone venting which works great on those sticky nights. The vents zip open and closed.

All the seems of the tent were sewn, and then melted together, to make a perfect watertight and strong seal. All the zippers are durable and easy to operate.

The tent is a breeze to set up.

There are storage nets on the walls and ceiling, hooks to hang stuff from, and even cup holders.

We just wish we had bought one that was bigger.

No, that’s not what a Puzzle Cache Tour is about.

The primary purpose of a Tour is to get together with some other cachers, and travel to a distance city to hunt caches. It’s an opportunity to spend time together. And when actually hunting the cache, increase the likelihood of it being found because there are more sets of eyes hunting it.

In this instance, I am planning to concentrate on puzzle caches. There is an ‘entry fee’ to be make sure no one is along for a free ride.

So, one person solves 10, and gets 30 free? No.

As some mentioned earlier, the odds are each person will probably be solving some of the same – perhaps easier – puzzles. Where do the others come in?

Some will be the collecting information type. One in particular I plan on is WSQ Mount Calvary. (I think I have the right name). It is a 9 part multi thru a large cemetery, and it highlights some spectacular monuments. I have done this one already, but I believe it is something to show others.

Any others? I do not know at this point, since it depends on who comes on the tour, and what they have worked on.

In this quote, I was not speaking of puzzle tours. I was speaking of cachers who are asked for help on a puzzle by another cacher, only to be handed the answer, not a clue, j2bc.

That explains why this winter has been so “mild”! lol 🙄

    Consider…

Global warming, now known as climate change, will unltimately cause the worst of winters. An ice age in fact.

…then there are those cachers that just feel free to hand out solutions to puzzles that aren’t theirs.

That’s the whole point of s|s’s original post, and it’s exactly what a Puzzle Cache Tour does. Sure, you have to solve a few to be part of the tour, but you get the goods on a whole bunch you had no hand in solving. And again, that’s much different than putting some heads together for a true collaboration.

So, s|s’s issue was not to encourage “handing out coordinates” through a tour because it runs counter to the spirit of the game, as well as the fact that it will tork off people (and I believe it’s a substantial majority) who do take genuine and justifiable offense having their hard work short-cut.

I understand what S|S’s issue is. I’ve run into it myself before. And, this is another case of me sitting on the fence and seeing both sides.

As a puzzle creator, especially those ones I’ve put mega time effort and sometimes money into, It bugs me a lot to just have my coords handed out to individuals.

However, after going through earlier this season, exactly what is being proposed here, I have given this issue a lot of thought and concluded that if a group wants to get together and do a puzzle tour, I’m fine with it. As long as those people on the tour have put forth some effort to solve the puzzles.

For instance. If mark fills just one car, and everyone in that car has solved 10 puzzles, thats 40 puzzles. Now, my guess would be that there are some overlaps here. I’m sure some people picked the same puzzles to solve. I would hope that these are the puzzles they all go after first. Then, if there is time left, they can hunt ones that were worked on by all, but not necessarily solved by all.

In the case that someone in the group is going out to grab one that they never even looked at, I would hope that the others in the group would at the very least, let them in on the puzzle and it’s intricacies.

In the end, I’m not the cache police. What cachers do and how they do it is not going to change because I want them to. There are going to be people who give things away, and there are going to be people that just won’t go get a cache unless they did all the work themselves. Whichever the case is, my best hope is that cachers at least give credit where credit is due. If you had help with a puzzle, say so in your log. If you went with a group, say so in your log. If you broke my puzzle, please report it. I’m not going to charge you for it. But I might make you help me fix and replace it. 😉 You know who you are. 😀

I called GeekSquad and spent a bunch of time with them as they diagnosed the problem on the phone, for free to this point I must add. After the diagnostics they said I’d have to have a tech come out or bring it by the store because it looked like my operating system was damaged. Cost=$199-$399. I don’t think so. Not yet anyway. Can you say new computer for that price?

Please what ever you do don’t ever take anything to them, you will get better quality service for half the price from any local PC repair. There are many videos and stories online of them blatantly misdiagnosing simple issues and the customer getting charged hundreds of dollars for three minute fixes.
I hate seeing people get ripped off.

After calling them (first time BTW) I learned one thing. THEY SUCK! well, they seem to know what they are doing, but are a complete rip off. Imagine paying $399 to fix this problem! I could have bought a brand new tower for that price. They also wanted to know If I would like them to do an antivirus/spyware service for near $100. It was then that I fell on the floor laughing, and accidently hung up. OK, it wasn’t an accident.

I’m still blaming Firefox though. If I hadn’t downloaded it, I wouldn’t have used stand-by either time. 😀

Just wondering why firefox made you use standby? or was it just by chance you used standby for the first time in a year after you installing it? I was also wondering where you downloaded firefox from? make sure you got it directly from mozilla here:
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

I have seen some spyware filled versions out on the web, and yes some spyware does install crappy network drivers in an attempt to have a backdoor to your computer. I doubt this is what happened to you but its always a possibility.

It was just coincidence. I was trying out the new Firefox, and got a call for work. I knew it would only take a few minutes, so I threw it on stand-by.

It’s also bad on the environment. Think how much CO² is added to the atmosphere every year by computers waiting on stand-by. 😡

Actually it saves TONS of electricity compared to leaving a PC running, if your PC doesn’t have any issues resuming from standby or hibernate I would definitely use it.
I fix PC’s and have seen this standby resume issue numerous times. To fix the issue next time simply reboot your computer or follow these directions: click Start, run & type CMD & press enter. Now type ipconfig /release & hit enter, now ipconfig /renew & hit enter.

Now your pc should connect to the internet just fine.

True, stand-by or hibernate are both better than leaving it powered on, but shutting it down completely and turning off the powerstrip/surge protector is even better.

Now that seems strange. I would have said any owner of a puzzle would offer help.

(However, I know one local who quite willing to give hints – in the form of another puzzle! Hmmm? That took some adjustment on my part.)

This is an example of where contacting other cachers for help in solving it would apply.

…then there are those cachers that just feel free to hand out solutions to puzzles that aren’t theirs. That’s what really bothers me. Anyone who knows me or my puzzles, knows I like getting contacted about them, and am more than willing to help. I’ve also been known to just give out my puzzle coords to someone that’s looking to hide a cache in the area. So long as they don’t go log the puzzle cache without solving it.
