Yikes! Cranberry Fest weekend in Warren. Hotel rooms are pretty sparse already.

Make sure you ask for your stickers at the restaurants and hotels. Receipts don’t work. One sticker per entree.

I would agree that Dublin’s is worth the visit. Been there a couple times form modern Irish food and 40 lines of tap beer. Yum.

I have found some good restaurants in the West Bend area.
    Sal’s Pizzia
    Riverside Brewery & Restaurant
    West Bend Tap + Tavern
    Cafe Soeurette
    Brazen Head Pub

in reply to: NYC Caching #1975526

I last cached in NYC in April 2007. The GPS was worthless in the sky scrapper areas but not too bad in Central Park. A few of the caches in the park are still there as well as a lot more. I looked at a lot of past logs for all of the ones I did to try to glean some hints from them. There are always a lot of people around so it makes it difficult to search anywhere. Good Luck and have fun.

I did the northern 2/3rds of this trail last fall. In addition to the trail being clear, it is a crushed gravel trail and will likely be very soft. You also need to make sure that the snow has melted as all of the caches are off the trail and in the woods. Some on the ground. Make sure you do your homework on this trail, they were hidden by different hiders and some are much easier than others and some are much more difficult than others. You will also need a trail pass I believe. I am hoping to get up there later in April or May to work on these trails some more. Good Luck.

in reply to: Recommedations for Buying Snowshoes? #1974827

To buy less expensive shoes in a set with poles and bags, the best time of the year is November and December. Lots of the box stores like Target, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Costco, etc sell them for under $75 for the set. I did a lot of calling a couple of weeks ago looking for some and Cabella’s had a couple for $70 just for the shoes. I bought one of the 2 they had. Higher end stores like REI have them but are more expensive.

I have found 3 of the 4, not Self-Disovery Cache. I will check my paper notes and see if I have the information.

in reply to: Facebook groups versus the WGA website? #1974553

I am not on facebook and hopefully never will be. I check in here for new posts about once a week or so just to see what’s going on. As you can see by the number of posts, I don’t generally post much unless I have something to offer.

What time were you thinking of getting to the nature center? I am not sure if my surgically repaired ankle is up for snowshoeing or not. I am planning on getting to the area early and doing some of the other local stuff.

in reply to: winter caches #1973609

don’t forget…If there is snow on the ground and it hasn’t snowed since the last finder, just follow the tracks to the container, unless the drunken monkey has left some false tracks. Either way. Good suggestions everyone. Really need to do your research in the winter. Look at ratings, attributes and past logs.

in reply to: Old school, long hike caches? #1972866

If there is not too much snow and ice it can be found in the winter. It is an ammo box so that will help, but it is a ground hide.
