Moving my mother in law the day before. Hopefully I can get that done in one day. Have wanted to do this one for a while.
I recently did GC1X3JH, Newport State Park (Verney Point). It was a 2.5 mile loop that was along trails till the last few hundred feet. The first segment of the trail is along the Poetry Trail. The displays change regularly and Estella Lauter of Door County is currently featured. The next segment goes through a nicely wooded area to rural campsite 9 and then to the point were the cache is. You could easily make this a longer hike along the many trails in the area. Not really “old school”, but enjoyable.
Uncle_FunHas anyone else noticed that most are not dating the paper logs in the caches. Never noticed that much till this month.
I was suprised to see that I have done 41 of them. Most recently the hodag in Rhinelander.
Be sure to take the kids to PC Junction for lunch or dinner. The will love the train that delivers the food to you if you sit at the bar.
If you send me a PM with the town you are staying in, I will give you some suggestions of caches in that area that my wife and I have enjoyed. It is easy to drive a couple hundred miles on the penninsula.

My understanding, from discussions with some of those in the know, is that there will not be any new water caches this year. However, the cache page doesn’t mention it specifically.
Both Half Hook and Fish Hook could take some time. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
Some of my favorites:
GC31P3K Alex Series #3 – Southport Lighthouse
GC154R6 Kenosha’s Ramblers on the Yellowstone Trail
GCHR9R Lover’s Leap
GC7F54 Where Did I Park My Car?
GCGX86 Hidden Valley Overlook
GC33WNC The Gallant Men of Hwy 32
GCQHHH Roman Eyeballs
GC1Y33R Petrifying Springs Artesian Well
GC7354 Refreshing FindSpraying bug spray on nylon tents will damage the water repellancy of the tent.
Not sure if that was a sincere question, but I looked and of the 75 caches in the series there are a total of 8 favorite points.
Philmont is an awesome place to go. Way better then the Cache Bash in WB. I have been to Philmont in 2009 and 2011 and have another trip planned for 2013 (likely my last). We have done 85+mile treks each time and have spent most of the time in the North section.
Have fun. You can attend the 2013 WB cache bash.
Welcome.
Uncle_FunRule number one. Don’t diss someone elses hide no matter how bad it is.
Rule number two. See rule number one. This is NOT how I actually feel. But is the impression that has been felt here.
It is too bad that the recent direction that geocaching is headed in this direction.
Poor hides and poorly maintained caches should not have to be tolerated. Sifting through the clutter to find quality hides and well placed, creative caches is harder than ever, given the quantity out there.
Lets be honest. There are way more guardrail and sign post hides than ever, that don’t bring you to an interesting place and have no real value other than as a lame hide. These appear to be the norm now. So saying to put them on your ignore list doesn’t work anymore. These hides were more tolerable when they were the exception, but less so now that they are the norm. Of the last 50 caches I have found, more than two thirds were of this type. It is just too hard to sift through the junk to find quality caches.
Lets not even mention that many of these require parking on the side of the road, where parking wasn’t anticipated, putting the cacher and anyone in their vehicle at risk of being involved in an incident.
Just my 2 cents.
