After the loss, we the WGA BOD wished to be proactive with the handling of WGA monies and worked together to create this policy which will be followed from this time forward.

      WGA Cash Handling Policy

Adhere to the following procedures when more than $100 is expected to be on hand during geocaching and fundraising events. The $100 limit will help exclude individual unsanctioned WGA events where sales are made by board members to attendees. If items are sold during individual events the Treasure should be contacted to receive funds via Paypal invoice or some determined way at that time.

The following policy ensures that at least two designated members are in charge of the cash box from the beginning to the end of an event. At the end of the event, both designated members need to observe where the cash box is placed enroute to be deposited.

If money is lost, immediate action must be taken to retrieve or locate missing funds as described below.

      • A locked cash box will be used to store cash and checks and will be locked at all times when not in use.
      • Two designated members will take charge of and be responsible for the cash box and keys throughout the event.
      • If one of the designated members cannot maintain charge of the cash box for an extended period of time, then a board member must be notified of the situation to reassign designation to themselves or another member.
      • The cash box will be in sight of a designated member at all times during the event.
      • Responsibility for the money will lie with the two designated members in charge of the cash box until the end of the event.
      • At the Event end, the two designated members will relinquish control of the cash box to the WGA Treasurer or designated courier. Designated members responsibility ends and sole responsibility transfers to the Treasurer or designated courier.
      • Cash will be counted by two WGA members after events and totals accounted for in electronic form (Private WGA Board Forum, Facebook Messenger Board Group, etc ).
      • Cash will be taken to the bank and deposited within 2 business days after an event’s conclusion otherwise the Board should be notified through the Treasures Forum when the Deposit will happen at a later date.  Whenever possible, two WGA members should be with the cash box until it is deposited.
      • If at anytime the cash box goes missing, board members at the event will be notified. Immediately after all actions to find the cash box have been taken place, a police report will be filed.

For years I could not afford the technology but finally gave in a few years ago. With my job I have found it useful at times and with the WGA FB page, priceless.

                From a May 2015 article:

187.5 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (77 percent mobile market penetration) during the three months ending in March, up 3 percent since December.

Another site posts this data in April of 2015:
64% of Americans now own a smartphone, up from 58% in early 2014

Smartphone Ownership Highest Among Young Adults, Those With High Income/Education LevelsNearly two-thirds of American adults (64%) now own a smartphone of some kind, up from 58% in early 2014. Smartphone ownership has increased by 29 percentage points since Pew Research conducted its first survey of smartphone ownership in the spring of 2011, when 35% of Americans were smartphone owners.

With 64% of the US owning a smartphone, yes it is safe to assume the majority now embraces the technology. Also from the same article: 23% of smartphone owners have had to cancel or suspend their service in the past due to financial constraints.

                http://www.pewinternet.org/2015/04/01/chapter-one-a-portrait-of-smartphone-ownership/

What does this all mean? Probably nothing except just like Internet service, smartphone ownership are now assumed as is having a FB account but I know of a few friends that still choose to not drink the FB Kool- Aid.

We’d all be better off without the smartphones. Think of how much safer driving would be!

When is the LCG event normally held? And does the location generally change from year to year? I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing it held in the Green Bay area some year.

                  -The Happy Hodag!

The event is the only “Official WGA event” hosted by you all, the members. Date and location is open depending on when and where the volunteer(s) wants to hold it. February has been the month many of the previous events were held.

It is because I hit “Sticky” which caused it to be super sticky and go across all forums. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

                        How to stay relevant.

While the book of Faces continues to offer almost immediate responses to questions via Wall Posts and Facebook Messenger, I see the draw to the quick and witty conversations where the masses gather. The struggle as I see it is it is mostly watercooler conservations.

Facebook does not allow for easy review of topics/posts from a day or more ago. How difficult would it be to constantly be trying to reinvent the wheel when the Association would want to check for historical responses or even try to remember what we talked bout as a group last week?

The constant tug to remain relevant goes much deeper that social media interactions. We, the WGA members, have a couple set events in place that all look forward to but where would be be if we constantly only had a Fall Picnic and a Spring Campout? Bored…that is what we would be.

We need to keep trying new things in events: GIFF event, working with the Lilypad to host a recognition of 1 of the best Beginner Caches in the U.S.A. (What the Cluck!)

We need to take a chance on new ideas or ideas that just didn’t pan out in previous years (WGA State Park Series).

We need to continue to listen to the Members- keep taking the events to them in all parts of the state irregardless of the needs of the BOD.

We need to change up the WGA merchandise. Without the sales, the WGA has no money to do anything.

So, to wrap it up we need to never stop.

Never stop trying, never stop thinking about the members, never stop getting you all involved, never stop giving opportunities to help with the events to give you all a chance to see if a future BOD election could be in your future.

That was a long day. I should have turned into a pumpkin by now. Maybe the best part of the day was shoveling the yard so I could extract the WGA trailer. Now it is in the garage and the Jeep sits lonely and cold outside.
