Some of you have served and others have not.  What can you bring to the BOD?  Skills? Contacts? Ideas?  Critical thinking?

I like to think the skills I can bring to the WGA are my enthusiasm. I’ve been caching almost 10 years and when you are excited about something, wanting to share it with others comes easily.
When I volunteer for something, I am full in and devoted to putting in time and effort to make it successful. I like seeing you all come to the events and have a good time, that makes all the planning and worrying worth it.

Before I was elected to the BOD, I had  offered my time running the WGA’s Facebook page and hosted/cohosted two or three of the Lonely Cache Game events in Horicon.

Since joining the Board, I have continued to run the WGA’s Facebook page, set up a good working relationship with the WDNR in setting up the State Park cache series and worked with the WGASP series Trail Bosses with whatever their needs to help assure the series was successful. I’ve helped plan the WGA events, searching out volunteers for events,  and when contacted by outside agencies, I’ve provided them assistance as needed. We often receive calls from community groups looking for assistance in putting on geocaching related activities and I help direct them to members interested in helping. The WGA Member Map is a big help with this. The WGA has a CITO along Highway 10  two times a year and I have helped run those.

I have a few ideas of my own that the WGA may be able to use in the future to keep the association growing and moving the sport forward but what I think I offer is the realization I don’t have all the answers but our members do. It is up my me/us to come to you all and ask for help and input.

              Thanks chevyole.

My favorite types of caches are the unique, clever or interesting ones. Sometimes they turn out to be Traditionals or Multis but more often than not, they are puzzle/mystery caches.

I like anything that is different or unique.

I would like to continue to serve as a Director on the Board as it is fun. I enjoy helping to plan new event and activities for the people that come. Like when when I hide caches, I enjoy giving back and serving on the Board gives me a chance to meet so many new people from across the state.

What can geocachers do to keep the sport fun and accepted in the communities?

                        Fun:
Keep innovating and being creative. Creativity breeds creativity. There are only so many caches a person can find until it becomes a little numbing. As hiders, we need to keep trying new things and searching out places of interest and GC.com should continue to help out the cachers, too as they did last year. Ne events (Makers Madness), the 31 Days of August, The Best Beginner Caches in the U.S. events (WI scored 1!).

Games within the Games should continue. Lonely Cache Game, Road Rallies, Capture the Flag, Amazing Race, Geocache Hunger Games, all of these are geocaching games within the games that great excitement and add to the same old game. What other spins on muggle activities can be repurposed with a geocaching twist?

I hope to keep hosting events and adding to the “fun” factor with new ideas while remembering that the reason people come to events is to be social. Caching has grown so much from just underground covert game to being much more mainstream.

Members are the answer to keeping geocaching accepted in communities.

How so? Each of us are the face of geocaching to muggles and everyone else. Be courteous, when hiding and placing caches, be aware of the surrounds. Making the find of a difficult hide is cool but if we end up tearing up flower beds or the like. When I am out caching and run across muggles, I like to take the time to show them what I am doing. For me the Stealth Mode has brought on too many risks anymore and what a great times to share out activity with someone than the be up front and open with what we are doing.

Did you know that the WGA sponsors CITOs? This is a simple way to put the face of geocaching out in the communities with the local governments, parks services, etc. With approval, the WGA BOD will provide funds to help cover these events.

                          Hi Jim,

My apologies for not being more on top of this. I can list a few excuses but we do have a a member or two that have offered to host but I need to firm up the plans and locations.

Last year’s event was a success in a smaller venue and the snow shoeing was a big success.

I hope to have a definite work this week barring any issues.

Potential location Bubolz Preserve in Appleton but open to other spots where some caches could be placed and a nice snowy outdoors day could happen.

In just 11 days the voting begins for the new BOD.

Now would be a good time to begin asking questions for the candidates in the Candidate’s Corner forum
