The two previous years I had also been asked if I would run for the Board. Previously work schedules and family commitments didn’t allow me the time to be the Work Horse needed. I also didn’t feel that I had invested enough time volunteering/running events to get a feel of “What It Takes”. That has changed.
I’ve co-chaired 2 WGA events, been a part of the Geocoin committees and I run the WGA’s Facebook page. When I accepted the offer to be the “Social Media Coordinator” I tried to remain behind the scenes. It was about getting people involved, talking, sharing and creating a community of WI geocachers.
After several discussions with current BOD members about what is really expected of a Board Member, I now have a full understanding of the commitment necessary and I am all-in.
When you are passionate about something, you want to share it with everyone. That’s how I am with caching and the WGA. I’m a people person and can’t wait to show others how this sport can change their outlook to life. I want to offer my time and leadership to help lead the WGA by growing membership, showing everyone what a great state full of wonders we have to explore and work towards maintaining a high awareness around keeping our caching privileges as open as they are now.
This is what I have to offer.
It’s been humbling to know that someone thought highly enough of me to suggest this nomination.
Many thanks to those who have taken time to come up with the questions and to all of you that have taken the time to read the responses.

I like variety so any article I write would be something that has crossed my mind lately. I could see mysefl adding content after running across a unique area or particular cache or situation while out.
Somewhere on the forums I have mentioned writing an article that would highlight different areas of the state- hopefully highlighting a place few have had a chance to explore before.
Good topics would be using the forum topics Recommened Caches or Earthcaches and I’d also ask around for member submissions. Pretty sure everyone would get tired of me droning on. I know they do at home, at least.
How many would I write? Can I promise 2 a year and then surpise everyone with more? It’d get easier the more I do and then I’d be a little more comfortable with the process.

Perfect time to try out the store bought boot ice-chaines. May have to make some like the Puffins showed us the other day.

I agree with what sweetlife shared. Technology is a great tool that has let people find a cheap way into our sport but that also brings along with it some pitfalls. A quick free download and you can be off and caching but the tehcnology brings with it issues.
Plenty of times caches placed by phones have been known for being a little shakey with the coordinates but there are plenty of ways to combat that now that the satellite maps are so detailed.
The addition of detailed sat maps has been a huge asset for getting an idea of terrain and cache locations before heaidng out on adventures.

A day out caching with me is always about the same no mattter if we are paddlin’ down a river, hiking a swamp or riding a bike down a Power Trail.
Whe I go out it’s all about the caching stories of the fun things we’ve done, puzzles we’ve solved- anything to do with caching gets covered.
You can also count on lots of laughs through out the day and times where we stop and look at all the wonders we see out along the trail. Every adventure out there always is something memorable that happens and we’ll get to share it together.

I’ll be at the event even if I am not chosen for the BOD.
Missing one of the few meetings would not be a good step for any BOD much less a newly elected one.
Is there an inaugural ceremony like in Washington?

Is there a chance I’ll perish on this adventure???

For those of you who haven’t met me yet, I thought I’d add a picture to put a name with the bio and questions I’ve been answering.

Does the number fall off due to the lower concentrations of people in the Northwoods?
I’ve noticed that over the years geocaching has become more social so we find our groups to cache with but the number of events and the area we cover has also greatly increased.
It looks like the WGA tries to spread out it’s events and rotates them every year to give new groups of people access to the “WGA” and all of us fun people that are part of it.
If I was one the WGA, hopefully I’d meet more Up North cachers and work with them to make them more confortable with hosting their own events so they can strengthen their caching ties with others in the area.
It’s the members that make the WGA strong. Without them, there’s no way that 9 people (the BOD) could do what they get done every year.

I remember my first geoevent (2009 Spring Campout at High Cliff). Eventhough I was surrounded by other cachers, I had a hard time going up to anyone and starting up a converstion.
Remembering that feeling of what it felt like to not be a part of the larger group helps me to look around for people that a little uncomfotable or out of place.I’m for the idea that the “seasoned” cachers try and take along new cachers to help introduce them to our larger group and give them up a few pointers to put them at ease. This doesn’t have to be an offical event…just be open and friendly.
No one should feel like they aren’t a part of this big ol’ caching family.
At one time or another we were all standing on the outside looking in.
