Congrats to the new and returning board members! I know we’ll be well served.
If we want to thank the parks we’re using, some sort of service should be considered. Perhaps we plan a CITO area during the camp-out, picnic, or whatever event we hold, but it seems to me that an appropriate thank you would be something that the park has asked for or needs. If there’s a need to leave some physical mark with WGA on at the park, perhaps we might consider some sort of service project (ala Boy Scout Eagle Projects) that would serve some need. I think park leadership and Friends of …. Park would be able to work with us on ideas.
Truthfully though….
I’m really against the bench just because it would have a little micro stuck to it! 😆
Impressive legwork Brian! This seems like quite a stretch. I can’t imagine feeling comfortable supporting such a huge finacial commitment that I honestly don’t see enough of an upside for. Too much risk. Too little reward.
I know there’s been a lot of discussion of the WGA’s finances in the past several months and it’s always been reported that we’re doing fine. If our motivation for a vanity plate was to produce revenue, I think it would be misguided. Personally, I’d rather pay a $25 membership fee before I’d buy the plate. I also think there’s too much competition with other plates out there. Are WGA members going to trade their UW system or Packer plate for a WGA one?
I would agree that the forums are NOT the WGA. I would wager that it’s actually a minority of members that regularly read the forums and an even smaller minority that do the majority of posting.
I don’t think an absence of a month is appropriate, but I would argue that a BoD member could maintain communication through other means such as events, caching with others, or private communications.
We attended our first WGA event at High Cliff State Park in May of 03. Last summer’s picnic was our first WGA event we missed since. WGA events are highlights of the year that we eagerly await the announcements of as soon as we leave the current one! We’ve usually made it to several other events throughout the year as well, with this past year being a little more sparse.
Honestly, this is my one concern as a candidate. School and school-related commitments certainly take their share of time. This past weekend had a large chunk consumed by report cards. Our daughter gets her fair share of attention too. I never knew the joy of crawling around the floor and playing peek-a-boo.
With that… I do check the forums regularly, probably three times a week. Carole says more, but that’s been the election I tell her. I choose to usually look through the discussions, but selectively post replies. I do believe I have time to offer.
😀 Good Call!!!!
Hartman Creek was a great camp-out in 04! Cached like we were on fire all day! Fortunately the evening temps cooled us down a bit! 😀 We remember thinking we might be able to snap our rainfly because of the frost!
It’s a great park! We’re looking forward to the repeat!
Bring plenty of film or memory too!
One of our all time favorite caches!
🙁 We were crushed when the cache was “outed”. It’s always been out there on gotta do sometime list. It’s too bad a few had to bring to an end what so many had clearly enjoyed. It reminds me of the holiday-icon conversation I have to have with one of my look-at-me fifth graders every year about this time.
We’re bummed we won’t ever get to gear up and conquer The Gauntlet, but proud to belong to a group that can claim one of its own conceived of such a clever and memorable cache! It’s all about the experience!
