Definetly guinea hens – a pearl and a slate (I believe). They are like gaurd dogs of the hen house – I once had about 6 of them chase an opossum out of the yard. They raise a horrible ruckus if anyone or anything strange comes around. I have heard they will even attack snakes.

If you are going to MWGB and are at all interested in geocoins check out the geocoin topic. I am working on a group project geocoin for MWGB. I think they will trade very well. If interested I will be taking orders until June 22. Thanks – Robin

At long last pictures………….. I actually got the samples in hand just in time to take them with to the WGA campout. The sample where all made in nickel – but you can have your choice of metals. Samples where mailed yesterday to those who ordered them. You can still make changes in your final order. I will be taking orders until June 22. At that time the orders will be going to the mint just to make sure that we have our coins in hand for MWGB. If you are thinking about ordering please do so ASAP, so if there are any questions they can be dealt with before the final day. Check the first post for ordering details. Thanks – Robin

Click on the images if you would like to make them larger.

You don’t have to be by the river either. Last spring I counted over 30 eagles in one tree by my house. That’s when I lived up on the ridge above Indpendence, WI. No river near by, but I guess the draw was the Gold-n-Plump chickens – the ones that didn’t make it to the store. When they cleaned the barns the dead chickens where spread on the fields along with all the chicken manure. I guess the eagles found them rather tasty. 😛

I’m looking forward to meeting Zuma at the campout, but I was worried that I wouldn’t know which one he is. Now I know that all I have to do is look for someone with tips of his fingers worn down from keyboarding.

    Hi Bill,

LOL. You are right, I have been active in this forum. My feeling is that all members deserve to be heard, and have their questions answered on this topic, since it is a significant change from past practice.

I thought maybe you were using the forum as an alternate to temporary logs to run your posting numbers up.

I think if you look at Zuma’s numbers (caches found and placed) you will see he really doesn’t have to run his numbers up. 😉

We would be interested in a coin if you go with the cow. Keep us updated

No cow, the parrot is being made as a “group project” coin for MWGB. Expect pictures of the actual samples as early as next week.

Any idea when these coins will ship?

Sounds like they will be shipping from the factory on March 25th. They still have to be shipped from the vendor to you after they receive them, so I would expect them in early April.

I would have to say it depends on if you are going to use the TOPO maps, or get regular maps for it. The memory cards are not that expensive and I found this listing on E-bay – eBay Listing $269 plus $17.48 shipping. Feedback of 10,232 99.9% positive. A garmin authorized dealer, giving it a 1 year warrenty – with extended warrenty available. It is “reconditioned” but they have new ones available on E-bay as well. I bought my 60cs on E-bay about a year ago for $175 with the mapquest softwear and have never had a problem with it. I took a chance though, I did buy it from a individual vs a dealer.

I have one spot left for anyone interested in a free sample in their choice of colors. Anyone willing to put a $50 deposit down on their order now will get a free sample coin in their choice of colors. (the $50 will come off your total order) I want to get the order in by the end of this week (the mints just reopened from their 10 day long New Years celebration). If no one is willing to put down a deposit on their order I will have 2 samples for myself 😛 .

I plan on taking orders until Mid May, but I have to start working on it now so we can get samples first and leave time to make any revisions, if needed. I think it will be a hot trader at MWGB. A great way to get some different coins and not have to spend $10 each on them. Also a great way to get some geocoins for traveling.

Just posted in the geocoin forums:

Update!! I got the new pricing for the version 2 Nerds!!

Version 2 Nerds will now be $110 per set of 25 Trackable coins or $4.40 per coin. This is a reduction of $0.40 per coin! w00t!

Wednesday, Feb 20th will be the last day for any new orders. Everyone please check the database and make sure everything is correct–especially check the engraving to make sure everything is spelled correctly and any capitalization is the way you want it to appear on the coin. (15 characters of engraving for v2) (I have a few corrections to update so if you already sent me a message to change something I will get it in tonight)

I will begin sending out invoices today and tomorrow. All invoices must be paid before the order will be sent to the mint. I will give about 2 weeks to pay the invoices (until March 1st).

If someone wants to order less than 25 coins I am willing to let anyone add onto my order. I now have 5 colors of version 2 (thanks to my son ), they are:

(black nickel) glow in the dark 1
    (silver) R-Y blue
(gold) black glitter with white pantone swirl
(black nickel) rainbow glitter with bright pink pantone swirl
(black nickel) Gamma glitter with a silver glitter swirl……….

Send me an e-mail( [email protected] ) or PM with what colors you would like, how many, the engraving desired, your paypal and shipping address. The coins will be billed and shipped directly to you. The cost of shipping is built in to the coins, so it’s a super great deal!

Last year when I was looking for a place for one of Zuma’s Mile caches I found a immature bald eagle standing in the road. It was big – at a distance I thought it was a turkey vulture, but when I approached it I saw that it’s head was feathered and you could see the underlying feathers on the breast where white. It stood in the road as I drove by. I knew that wasn’t normal and went back. It attempted to fly, but was not able to get off the ground. I called the sherrif’s departement who had the DNR return the call to me. I watched the bird from a distance in the pouring rain until the person came to retrieve it. It went over the bank and down a hillside in the woods. I didn’t think he would be able to catch it, but did as it tired quickly. It was sent to the Raptor Center (http://www.theraptorcenter.org) located at the University of MN in St Paul. The eagle was young and still needed its parents to provide it with food. It must have flown quite far away from it’s parents because the game warden said that usually if a young bird is found on the ground the parents are close by and will still care for it, but obviously this was not the case here. The eagle was rehabilitated by The Raptor Center and placed with a nest local to the school for easier monitoring. They said the parents can’t count and will care for a similar aged young bird if it is placed in it’s nest. If it would have been an adult they would have brought it back here for release. I am working on a coin as a fundraiser for The Raptor Center and will post details on that at a later date. 🙂
