Here is one idea for a WI MWGB group coin. http://www.madhattersneverland.com/pez/wrappers/ProtoPage/coin_ROBIN_PARROT/1.htm There would be a space for each person to add their name – or what ever they wanted to in that space. You could choose your own colors, including glitter or glow in the dark.

I am also going to present an idea based upon Ldove’s Mooving cow, if I get her permission to do so (Permission given, Thanks!).

Let me know if you are interested and what you think.

The company that I contacted has done many “group” projects – that’s coins made from the same die, but using different metals and colors for each person. The basic quote that I got from them is between about 6.22 and 6.75 for a 1.75″ trackable with an Icon. Using another option and foregoing glitters you could well be in the 5.75 range per coin.

If you all are interested in making a smaller coin we can do it cheaper, if you are interested in going with a non-trackable they can be even cheaper yet. The last group project I was involved in was called the Geocoin Nerds. It is a thin, micro coin – you choose your own metal and your own color. They where all one color and had a place for your name, or what ever you wanted to put on them. Those where $2.00 each. Prices have gone up this year, but it give you an idea of what can be done.

    I need your thoughts…………………….

I got this reply about prices today:

    Hi Robin,
I really canรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt give you an exact number unless I have art to send in. But I can tell you what I have gotten recently with those options . I think you can look at between about 6.22 and 6.75 for a trackable with an Icon. That is using the big guys. Using another option and foregoing glitters you could well be in the 5.75 range per coin.
If you have a sketch of what you are thinking let me know and I can get you exact pricing.

I am open to any suggestions. I was just thinking about the cheesehead pirate parrot because the parrot is the theme for the MWGB this year. A little bit of good news. I contacted one company that has done several of these kinds of group projects and they thought even if you had the choice of any color option (glitter, glow in the dark, ect) it should be cheaper that what I said it would be. That would be for a 1.75″ shaped, trackable coin with an icon. If we do a round one, it would be less expensive. I will keep you updated when I know more. I hope we can get enough people interested so that we can do this project. I think it will be fun and I think they will trade great!

what is a group coin project?

I went into more details under the geocoin topic, check it out.

This years Midwest Geobash will be August 7-10th in Kendallville, Indiana. A group of us went last year and as far as I know everyone had a blast. This years theme is parrots. I thought it would be cool to do a group coin project for those of us in WI going to MWGB. If you are interested check out the Geocoin topic and post your thoughts.

Maybe it would be cool to try and get a “group” campsite. We would need to know who is camping, in what and what section you want to camp in soon so a group leader can make reservations as soon as the campsite reservations open.

Here is the Link for the event: Midwest Geobash 2008 and the link for the event cache: GC154HT – A Mega-Event Cache Midwest Geobash 2008.

in reply to: While we are on the topic.. Favorite FTF? #1880746

My favorite FTF was Island of Lost Boys-Toys. I worked the night before and had a meeting to go to after that so I left work a little early and stopped at the cache on my way – kind of on my way ๐Ÿ˜† . I had talked to Zuma that night and knew that he was going to go after this one that day. It was one of my first FTF’s and as I opened the log book and saw it was empty I was chuckling to myself thinking about Zuma’s expression when he opened the log book and saw that I beat him to it ๐Ÿ˜ฎ . That was the best part – kept me smiling the rest of the day. It was a good cache too. I don’t dare beat him to a FTF these days – not unless he makes me mad. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

No, it was stated on the forums and the sales page that the WI coins and the micro eggs share an icon. The coins do have two icons – the WI/Robin icon will appear on your profile when you log the coin. The egg will appear on the cache page when the coin is placed there. The reason for this is the icon on the cache page is so small the WI/Robin would not show up to well. Sorry for any confusion.

I am working on a trade for you. I will let you know when things get worked out. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you have a WI_Robin geocoin it must be sent back. All coins, even ones that currently “work” must be sent back – Regular coins and the micro eggs. If you have activated your coin it will be “deactivated” by groundspeak and the tracking number reused. So please return any coins that you have. You will be refunded shipping and sent new coins once they are re-minted. Thanks – Robin

Latest update from The Caching Place:

As some of you know, there was a critical code error made by the mint. The engraver at the mint accidently incremented the codes on the excel list instead of “copying” them. By incrementing them, the original codes with numbers were changed and then engraved on the coins. We were hoping that Groundspeak would be able to add these new codes into the database so that folks would then be able to retrieve activation codes. Turns out that this would be a HUGE undertaking and would still not solve the additional problem of “duplicate” codes.

The only real solution is for us to re-mint the entire order engraved with “new” codes. This means that we will need to “recall” all of the Wisconsin Robin coins, in all versions. We understand that this is an inconvenience and we are very sorry. We realize that trades and sales may have been made and would appreciate it, if you have made such a transaction, that you contact those individuals and ask them to please return the coin/s to us for new “replacement” coin/s. We will reimburse the cost of 1st class mail to return the coins.

Please include your name, address and paypal email so we can credit your account.

These coins were sold in several metals and came as a set, which included one large coin and a small micro egg coin. There were also some LE sets (6 coins) and some XLE sets that were available directly with Robin. The entire set must be returned for a replacement set. If you’ve split up your set in a trade, return the coin you have and that one will be replaced. It will take about 30 days for these coins to be re-minted. Once we receive the coins we will begin shipping them out to those who have sent their coins back.

    Please send your coins to:
    The Caching Place Inc.
    5689 Cotton Ridge Cir
    Murray, Utah 84107

We appreciate your help and understanding and please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. There were some orders recently purchased that were held until we figured this out, we will be sending emails out on those orders.

    Thanks for your help!!

Sorry that I didn’t post here immediately. Here is what I know as posted on the geocaching.com forums:

    Update from The Caching Place:

First let’s update everyone on the “activation” issues!! We have determined that the mint messed up BIG time and made some changes to our master file of codes. Their “mistake” ended up creating a new set of codes that were engraved on the coins but of course not recognized by our database!

We contacted Bryan at Groundspeak to see if he can help us resolve this issue by adding this “new” set of codes into the database to replace the original codes….what a sweetheart, although it’s huge process on their end, he has agreed to help us try and resolve the problem!

Making this change will enable the “majority” of folks to get activation codes for the coins they have in hand now. It will not however be a total cure….there will still be a handful of coins that we will need to replace.

At this point in time we still do not have all the details ironed out, it would be a good idea to hold off on making trades on this coin set for awhile. We’ll post an update here in the forums once we have a few more details. As I mentioned, it’s a huge process for Bryan to “search” the database to be certain that these ‘new’ codes are not being “duplicated”, so it could take awhile for them to complete this task!

    Thanks for your patience!

    Georgia & Sharon

If you can not retrieve an activation code please e-mail The Caching Place. They will make it right one way or the other. Here is a link to the topic on the national forums: http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=165745&pid=3094123&st=100&#entry3094123

Please recognise that this is a factory error, no fault of The Caching Place. The factory somehow scrambled the numbers to make up new ones. How or why I am not sure. I do know however that Georgia and Sharon from The Caching Place will make sure that everyone gets a coin with a good activation code, it is just going to take a little time.

My coin with the most miles on is my Loved This Cache geocoin http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=846974 Currently it has 18509 miles on it since I activated it in January. It has been to Australia and now is back in WI! I have an other that has traveled over 4000 miles in 3 months and unfortunately several that never made it past the first cache I placed them in.
