I own and love a Lowrance Globalmap100. My wife owns a Garmin Legend with maps. We each struggle with the others units as we are accustomed to our own units. I believe that you might want to stick with menus that you are familiar with to be happiest.
I don’t know how old some of the boy scout tents are, but we reapply waterproofing spray and seam sealer on them every other year. It seems to work for our troop. I say if the material looks in good shape, it would be worth it to try to reseal it. We also use a sheet of heavy plastic under the tent to keep water out from the floor. You just have to make sure no plastic is sticking out to catch water runoff.
I have checked mine in the past, and reset it very often. I found that it isn’t as accurate as you might think. I’ve had mine show me that I went to canada and back in 5 minutes. You should look at your top speed, you just might be suprised with what you find.
I started out north of Iron Mountain, and finally got a good signal just north of Green Bay. My sat menu showed 5 straight above me, and still would only hold for about 5 seconds. It would put me on the map nowhere near where I was. It has worked flawlessly since, thats what prompt my question.
