    I’d like to do this soon. http://wi-geocaching.com/forums/Forum8/HTML/000381.html

    If you are interested, when would be a good night? or would you rather give up a potentially good caching morning on a weekend? How about the 24th? (Saturday Morning?) Let me know y’all! WZBT03, (or another could you come and handle the “Windows” part of this? I can do the “Palm” part.

    Once you open that file, all the available formats are listed there for your viewing pleasure.

    You want to change the line that reads-

    “Waypoint is the name for waypoints in your GPS receiver. Historically, this has been the equivalent of %C%I, But you may find it more useful too show the actual name of the cache instead. You could also include the
    placer and/or the difficulty/terrain ratings if you desire. See the table of Format Specifiers above for more information.

    Waypoint_Format = %N”

    Change to
    Waypoint_Format =%C&I

    Let us know if this helps.

    I finally did as you said above, but when I open the spinnerized file in Easy GPS, the Waypoints are all named GCI, MCI VCI, etc. Did I do something wrong? I haven’t put them in my GPSr yet because I am at work Will they display on the GPSr ok?

    You know you addicted when Ms. WISearcher rolls her pant legs up wades in to check for a cache that may be suspended over 3 feet of icy cold water. If the junior lotsacaches weren’t there, Mr. Lotsacache and Mr. WISearcher would have gotten a show, as Ms. WISearcher was willing to drop trow for the team. Mr. WISearcher was all for it.

    I need to go hide, as I am probably in trouble now.

    Mr WISearcher.

    You know you addicted when it is 11:43 am on a Tuesday, and you’ve already been on Geocaching.com & WGA website 5 times, and you are at work.. uh.. multitasking?

    OR, you keep seeing notifications that Ms. WISearcher is posting caches for approval for the upcoming Monopoly series. (Who also is at work! 😛

    Mr. WISearcher

    We have the GPS, now all we need is the tall ship!

    Let me append what I said about the &79 Zire. It has 2 MB of memory, which is enough for 1 “Plucker” paperless set of 500 caches. Those files run about 1300K. That should be enough, even if you have thousands of addresses and phone number. But if you want to have multiple files for different states and areas, then you would want to look at 4MB or 8MB.

    I have an old Handspring Neo that has 8MB. That has always been plenty, and I can hold 3 or more large files as described above.

    in reply to: Palms #1746538

    That all depends on your preference. The Palm OS market is pretty large, and there are many to choose from.

    The Windows based PDAs are also popular, and probably more powerful. But again that depends on what you want to do with it, besides geocaching.

    If you are going to use it for an appointment calendar, and for paperless geocaching, my suggestion would be to get used one maybe on ebay or an inexpensive Palm based Zire. http://www.palmone.com/us/products/handhelds/zire/

    For $79, you will get exactly what you want as described above.

    However, if you are really going to get into wireless, and want more of a pocket PC, then take a look at something like an HP iPAQ h1945 Pocket PC http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009RL1W/002-3280931-8102410?v=glance which is about $300.

    I plan on having a paperless geocaching clinic with someothers who use windows based PDAs, as I use Palm OS. Come to that and take a look at what is there. Maybe that will help? See “paperless Geocaching” in this “General” Forum.

    Alright, I must be dense, because I have tried bunches of settings but I’m always looking from a High earth orbit.. I can’t get zoomed in like Caching out’s regional map. Can someone show me the advanced and regular settings so I can be just like them???

    Cathunter:

    Many small Coffee houses offer free wireless connections, but who knows if you are Podunk, WI. Many hotels will also offer what is called a “hotspot”. They are becoming more and more popular, but even here in Madison their are only a handful. Even our local Starbucks stores do not offer them, but a few coffee shops downtown do.

    Here is one of many sites that offer the information you require, but again they are somewhat few and far between. (I searched “wireless hotspots” in google.)
    http://www.wififreespot.com/wi.html

    Here is a list of cybercafes in WI: http://cybercaptive.com/zz/z270.html

    With an Earthlink dial up account, when I travel for business, I carry a list of Local Dialup access numbers on my Palm (downloadable from their website). In a situation like that, I would stop at a hotel lobby and plug in to the lobby phone. (have a donut from continental breakfast while your at it LOL.

    By the way, if you are ever by my house, you can park in my driveway and use my connection

    Hope that helps!
