Does the original poster have the option to delete comments by others that are not within the ground rules stated for the thread? (provided there are some)
If not, adding this feature would solve the issue in most posts. If I were to respond to a post (and I have) that does not follow the general theme of the post then the original poster should be able to control this since it was their post. Right now I think the only option is to delete the whole thing, good and bad.
Anyone can post a topic and I imagine duplicates are allowed if someone desires to do that type of post.
01/30/2006 at 10:50 am in reply to: Cast Your Votes In The 2006 Board of Directors Election #1738754I realize that some of you do not like to hear that others may not share your opinions on geocaching. If my opinions are in the minority, so be it, they still merit review by others.
I have noticed a trend with WGA which I find rather disturbing and decided that to drop out of sight or keep quiet is not the proper option.
So here we go….
First to address Brian (grousetales), I am being honest about the ease of voting in elections, when you vote where I live you just show up, tell them where you live and then vote. No one threatens you, no one tries to itimidate you, in fact they are actually pretty friendly folks.
For the people running the election to talk of “sock puppets” is kind of weird since I have fairly reliable information that the sock puppet issue was with fellow board members, not the general membership.
Certain board members have been rather quick to criticize others, including myself, without ever looking at what they do themselves.
So if you want a positive organization, you have to be positive yourself and that starts by not starting a negative thread on voter fraud.
I also find it kind of funny that I leave one thread about how I feel about the election and three board member respond in a matter of hours but I leave one message asking that a accounting of WGA funds and expenditures to be posted and I get total silence…. hmmmmmmmmm.
I hate to be the one to mention this but really folks, its just the WGA elections.
They have less checks and balances in presidential elections and they even have more then 80 people voting.
Per their own writings, WGA has no real power with geocaching.com and the election is just about electing people who wish to serve in a volunteer capacity for geocaching in Wisconsin in order to assist others and help the cause.
Must we really have all the reminders of fraud etc.
This should not be too hard to police with as few people voting as we have.Either trust the members of WGA to be honest or just drop the whole concept of a board. Does the current board really distrust the members this much?
Thank you Cathunter.
Sometimes thoughts from the dark side can cause some excellent discussions. In reference to the WGA and funding, it has always been pointed out to everyone that we were very lucky that WGA is free and hence the need for donations at picnics and campouts.
Since I have never seen an accounting of the financial sitiuation of WGA and what they actually spend their money on, it is perhaps true that they no longer need donations. Good point Russ, maybe this is something from the past that I remember that no longer pertains.
On that note, is it possible for the WGA board to post the financial breakdown for us all to see?
Outstanding Job!
I have two questions:
Who actually paid for these coins?
Will board members automatically reward theirselves with some of them?
I really question a non-profit organization using funds to purchase rewards and wonder if it is even appropriate.
Since the concern of funding WGA is always something stressed to the membership, why not auction them on EBay or sell them at a premium price. Couldn’t these profits be better utilized to help fund GPS units for educational programs or fees and staples for the picnic and campout.
Your plan benefits too few of the many that geocache in Wisconsin. Lets start thinking of ways to benefit everyone, present and future.
Actually Bill my original post stayed on the forum all of 15 minutes when I decided that I really did not care what the answers would be and I then deleted it.
I did find your answers to be honest and constructive in nature.
Thanks for responding to the post.
I recall when Buxley was first stopped by geocaching.com and I asked the board if it were possible to let geocaching.com know that many of us in WGA really liked Buxley’s maps.
I was told that they were not interested in doing this. It is one of the first times I questioned what the boards function was if not to help.
I still think that WGA should at least let Jeremy or whoever know what many of us feel about Buxley’s maps.
Before any board members get all defensive about this, I already know that the board will come up with a million reasons on why they will not or can not do this. I just wanted others to know that they were asked.
I have always disliked it when I find these type of things happening.
Even the permanent marking on the bottom of trail signs should be banned.
I even remember a cache where the hider made permanent X and O’s on playground equipment. Can’t remember who it was but it really does not matter other then to say that everyone needs to be able to collect their caches and have things be the same. You would be amazed at how common coyotes are in both rural and urban areas.
I run into them all the time in the woods and one thing is a given, dogs and coyotes are natural enemies and one scrappy 20 pound coyote will give a 100 pound dog all it can handle.Of course your right Seekers8711, some do take this way to serious.
Maybe I have too much fun seeing which ones I can get excited over the little things. My New Years resolution……….
well I have until midnight to decide ….
Don’t be offended Brian, my comments were not made to be taken so personally.
I was speaking as someone who found little in WGA that enhanced my geocaching to the point that I spent most of 2005 as a non-member of the organization and did not feel as if I missed much.
There is no doubt that the camping event and the picnic are very popular and liked by all.
My comments have always revolved around how the geocaching community as a whole is what has made Wisconsin Geocaching what it is, not the board alone.
I just found others telling us to not vote for this person just because they do this or not to vote for this person because they are this way or that, a bit overdone.I think I listed some bullets as to what I considered a “lame” cache and your input with your bullets might be interesting discussion instead of just throwing bricks at my opinions.
There is way too much brick throwing around here whenever anyone voices their opinion.
Either offer something to the discussion or keep your bricks in your own yard.
Of course that is just my opinion.
There are very few who actually get into these discussions for that exact reason.
Perhaps there would be more people participate if they felt that they could say something without someone telling them they shouldn’t say it.I believe the discussion was:
What would happen if…..
Sorry to hear the Rhonda will be taking a leave of absence from the board but her reasons could not be better.
Please do not take offense at this comment but all the “qualifications” to be a board member seem rather overdone. They are a lot like all the political phone messages we all received prior to the last presidential election.
I think people understand what they want for the Camping/Picnic Committee and will vote accordingly if they decide to vote.
Last election about 1 out of every 8 voters ended up on the board. Hopefully this year will have more participation.Wish I had started this earlier.
This is a fun activity with some goals in mind.
Thanks for pointing this one out Team Lightning bugs – next time I might start on time. -
