Bought a Lowrance ifinder Hunt a few weeks back. Very satisfied with it. Previous unit was a Garmin GPS 12. Use it mainly to get around town.
Main reason I bought it was larger number of tracks and waypoints compared to Magellan Meridian, and can load/save data from/to SD card (Magellan Meridian can, Garmin can’t). Being able to capture a track, save to SD, clear all tracks, capture a new track and save to SD, all without connecting to PC, is a killer feature for me. As is the reverse – being able to selectively load any track I want from SD.
Actually, most of the data transfer is via SD Flash card (standard type, like those used in digital cameras). Even firmware upgrades and loading of maps from CD. Serial port is only for output of live current position data to PC.
