Thanks. I was happy to meet some of you up here in our turf and also happy that I could join the quest too. It was quite the challenge to be able to finish it up here (I had already done most of the caches that qualified). Thanks to bnb and Lightning Bugs for your help. It made me span out of my usual caching range, not as far as Bunny tho. Congrats to you other finishers too
This week through Nov. 27 is gun deer season in WI. I personally would stay away from areas where hunting is allowed and if you are on the fringes, blaze orange would be advisable. There are many nice hides in Eau Claire area, if you are coming that way. I hope you will be able to enjoy some of our fine caches in WI.
That would be great. I’d love to take some more recent info over to this guy.
Unfortunately, I haven’t had such good luck with a guy I’ve been talking with. He is using a letter dated 2002 and said that’s the latest policy and it says there is a $25 fee to hide a cache, plus other guidelines. I will be very happy to see the new guidelines and forms come out and maybe some new areas will open up to us.
I had 4 tbs and I think only one is still around. 2 went missing practically right away in Illinois, so I would try not to leave any in that state. So, I’m kind of giving up on owning any tbs.
BUT, a couple of days ago, I found out one of my caches has been taken–that really bummed me out since I had stocked it rather nicely. What is the matter with people who do these things?
An event cache in the Blue Hills sounds great–I love that area. I’ll be talking to economic development and try to get something going. They mentioned possibly sponsoring an event, class, and providing cache materials. This is all in the very beginning stages, but we have to start somewhere. We need to get more people informed and then, involved, up in this area.
We’ll see what we can get going. Thanks for the enthusiasm and offer to help.quote:

Thanks, I wasn’t sure if the DNR or some other agency made the policies for all the state parks and land. I’ll have to let them know that there is more current info they should obtain.
I will be there. Will the time and place be announced on this forum? Since I’m new to this I will need to be “coordinated”.
Did you check with El Bastardo? Maybe he took it.
Lucky you. I have 4 TBs out there but only one semi-active. I put 2 in IL and they have disappeared, so I wouldn’t suggest anyone putting them down there. Maybe, tho, I shouldn’t have put the Packer football on one of them–don’t da bears have a sense of humor?
Anyway, I would like to use the duplicates but don’t know how. Can anyone help with that?quote:

I just checked the cache page (8:43 P.M.-10/5) and it is listed along with other tbs. I checked to see if I had the right waypoint and it is. I also emailed someone who was there and took a tb to see if they could provide some help, because a later post said they didn’t see any there–I’m getting concerned. I appreciate any help I can get on this one, thanks

Thanks Paddlers and Linus. I appreciate the help. Don’t they do much caching in IL or is it just that they don’t like my Packer humor so much?
Might as well add me to the list. I have WI, MN, IL and AZ

Ditto on this list, in addition I…Carry a whistle on a lanyard. This can be used to warn animals such as bear, mountain lion, cougar, etc you are coming so as not to startle them. Also to summon a search party should you get lost.
I leave a note in my car window of my name, phone numbers, date and time I left, and intended destination including gps coordinates.
Signal mirror, water, first aid kit, multi-tool, knife, waterproof matches.
Blaze orange, especially on your head, during hunting seasons!
Keep a list or program into your phone emergency numbers, DNR, County Sheriff, or State Patrol for the area you will be in.
No cell phone? How about a FRS, or CB radio with an emergency channel.
If possible let someone (family, ranger station, police)know where you will be hiking and when you expect to be back.
Wow, I guess I better get my act together since I usually just take the gps, cache sheet and pencil. Looks like I have a few things to add to my Christmas list. I don’t have a cell phone but I wonder if it would even work in some of these northern areas. Thanks for the tips, you may have just saved one of us.
Thanks for posting this question. I also am a female cacher who generally goes alone. My husband has been concerned about my safety (even to the point of giving up a hunting day to go caching with me up in the northwoods) . I’m hoping more experienced lady cachers post here too especially if they’ve encountered problems.
