    Regarding the logo issue:

The current logo is fine, and I dont see a need to change the logo. However, if someone has a strong desire to change it to something more slick, and has artwork they want to propose, I would be open minded about changing it.

in reply to: Questions for Candidates – Attendance at Events #1768446

Regarding attending events by BOD events, I would think that BOD members, like all WGA members would attend the events that interest them, and for which they have time for in their personal life and work schedule. I do not think that being on the WGA BOD mandates that one must attend all events sponsored by the WGA. I also do not think that a BOD member should feel “forced” to attend local events if they have other things going on in their life, or if they have work committments.

On the other hand, I would think that BOD members would be interested in geocaching in general, and in local events and would attend a majority of events in their area. But I think it is wrong to say that there is a mandate for this. Personally, I do this for fun, and the moment that it is mandated that I must attend an event, is the moment that I will do something else.

I have attended the past 2 WGA spring campouts, and enjoyed them both. I do plan on attending the next one as well, because I am looking forward to the fun and seeing old friends and meeting geocachers in person that I have met on-line. I will not attend because of being made to feel obligated too. Rather, I will attend because I want to.

Regarding adopting a section of highway, I think that this is a very good idea, and should be pursued.

    Hey OPS,

Glad you made it to 3/4 K here in Eau Claire, hiking the trails of HBZ. Maybe ya can make it back over to score 1K at Stereogenesis. Now that it has been logged, we know it is possible, just not easy.

    Probably, this cache:

    GC9E5E

It is more than a junkyard though. Quite a place to visit.

in reply to: Help needed Feb 3, in Hudson #1768361

Here is more info on the Hudson Hot Air Balloon affair, which I am cut and pasting from there email, for those interested:

First of all, I want to thank all of you for responding with offers to help us at the Hot Air Affair! It was great to see the positive responses for both the media interview and the information, question & answer time.

Evy Nerbonne has arranged to get the media taken care of and has left me in charge of getting all of you organized! She is setting up the interviews and then the plan is that one of the reporters will go geocaching–with the local cable tv crew filming the search! It sounds like fun!

We are scheduling a Geocaching information and question & answer period on Saturday, Feb. 3 for about 1 hour starting at 12 noon. This will be at the E.P. Rock School in Hudson. This is the balloon launchfield as well as the area used for the Marketplace & Craft Fair, Minnesota Kite Society Demonstrations, Ice Carving Demonstration and Winter Olympiad. Depending on the weather we could have the Geocaching session on the launchfield, inside the school or in the Freedom Tent.

When you get to the school/launchfield area, just ask anyone that is wearing a Hot Air Affair white staff jacket, or wearing a 2-way radio where to find either me or Evy. You can also go to the Freedom Wagon where the announcer is and he can help find us also. The folks with the jackets or radios–most with headsets–are committee members and can help you find us.

We have listed geocaching on the Hot Air Affair Website and have hidden 4 caches relating to the ballooning weekend. We are also providing additional information in the print advertising and on the website about other geocaches in the Hudson area.

For those of you not familiar with the Hot Air Affair, you can go to the website to get info on this year’s schedule of events or if you want me to mail a brochure with the info just send me your mailing address and I will get a brochure in the mail asap.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions on how to make this the most informative session we can make it.

    THANKS! Evonne

Congrats on the 500 milestone. Glad you could come to Eau Claire to do some of Wi Robin’s great HBZ to score the milestone.

in reply to: Questions for Candidates: Mega Events #1768337

    Issue 1 Response (Megaevent)

Yes, I do think that the WGA should work towards having a mega event, which would require that the current annual events be increased a bit in scope, and the finding of an appropriate venue. I think it is too late to plan this for 2007, but we should make it our goal to have the annual spring event in May be a mega event in 2008.

To faciliate this, I would support GeoPink’s proposal that the WGA board create action committees to advance specific goals and objectives of the WGA. For example, there could be a 2008 mega event planning committee, with a member or two from the WGA BOD, and the rest the members of the work group being interested volunteers from the rest of WGA.

We would probably want people who have attended other mega events on the committee, since folks like you would have better insights into what is needed to make a mega event a success. One excellent choice for mega event committee membership would be Tami of the Ecoranger’s. I did hear you volunteer, right? 😀

    Hi CB,

I agree that the cops handled it stupidly. Too bad ya had to archive it, simpy cuz people are way too suspicious, and cops over reacted.

I havent decided yet on archiving the YST cache in Fon Du Lac park, but may. On the down side, the park is tiny and out in the open, so no matter where it would be hidden, finders would be exposed to being seen and looking a little weird. On the up side, I guess they already know there aint no bomb there. I liked the location, simply for the big wooden YST sign there showing the route of the YST in Wisconsin. Plus, it is the only park along the YST in Wisconisin named for the old trail.

    Hi Team DeeJay,

thanks for posting that very scary link. Wow. It is really sad that we live in a world with so much fear.

    Hey Jennifer,

Glad to see you are running for the WGA BOD, and yes, I think there is strong interest in a 2007 Wisconsin Geocoin. At least, I know I want one. 🙂

I have several of the 2006 camping coins out traveling, and lots of folks comment on how nice they look. Hopefully, you and PCFrog can come up with something as nice this year.

    in reply to: Antigo/Wabeno Area 1-13-2006 #1768113

    Hi,

If you are looking for a couple of good caches in the Antigo area, you might enjoy GCX7VN, Quiet Waters. This is a particularly interesting multi, with a great hide. If you prefer a single stage in a great spot, you might like Still Waters, GCX7VW.

South of there is Lost and Found, GCKPBV, which is an easy find after a great walk in a scenic area.

There is also a park and log on the north side of Antigo, that takes about a minute to find, GCXP3G. It is an uninteresting location, and just a quick film can, but it will get ya the page if that is your main objective.
