    Hi PC

This is a great cache, and no, I wouldnt bump the difficulty to a 5 cuz it just aint that hard. While I spent 40 minutes the first time looking for it, and got no joy, that was after several inches of fresh snow. The second time I looked, I found it within 10 minutes, so it is definately not a 4. It is a fairly decent size cache, so if anyone looks they should find it.

Also, it is in a great spot, so it doesnt matter how long it takes to find it. What I dont like are mini-micros placed in yucky spots, where I would just as soon not be anyway, such as next to a freeway, or a micro in a sea of brush. (Visited 2 of these in MN a couple of days ago.)

If anything, the difficulty if probably a 3, given the size of the container. The only reason that I would even give it that high is that there are a lot of good potential hiding spots within 30 feet, forcing one to search a little bit, rather than just head for an obvious beacon. Also, you have placed it (I think cleverly) in a place that is not a geobeacon, in an area with a lot of geobeacons.

It is a great cache, so dont worry about it. Just put out a few more, so I have reason to head back your way. I cant afford to drive that far just for the one that I have left of yours.

    Hi Marc,

LOL. Well, Mr Young is a troubadour who was my muse for 2 new caches placed today.

    Marc, Marc, Marc,

You really need to listen to more Neil Young music. If you did, you would be familiar with the little known Neil Young song “Surfer Joe and Moe the Sleaze.” Here are the lyrics:

I’ll introduce you to Surfer Joe
    He may be there,
    I really don’t know
    We can smoke garfong
    and watch him ride
    the big one.

    Come on down
    for a pleasure cruise
    We’re all going
    on a pleasure cruise
    Come on down
    for a pleasure cruise
    Plenty of women,
    plenty of booze.

Come on down, come on down
    Come on down, come on.

Here’s a story about Surfer Joe
    He caught the big one,
    and he let it go
    There’s somebody satisfied
    with winning.

Here’s a story about Surfer Joe
    He caught the big one,
    and he let it go
    He’s somebody satisfied
    with winning.
    He’s somebody.”

Anyway, from those lyrics, I would say that Surfer Joe is the alter ego of Moe the Sleaze, a MN cacher of longstanding. Moe is now the approver in MN, and is using the Surfer Joe name as his reviewer’s name. I have never met him, but I figure anyone who gets their handle from an obscure Neil Young song cant be all bad.

    Hi Team DeeJay,

Looks great. I have done most of the caches on your Madison to Minnesota list, and all of your descriptions are accurate.

You might consider adding in the Lake Menomin caches, though. They are absolutely great, and are easily accessed from the Highway B exit. You might want to add the disclaimer that they are all in the same park, and that to walk to all of them would take about an hour.

    Hey Dave,

Congratulations on the 100 FTF. That is quite amazing, and I know how difficult getting FTFs can be, especially now that I have been on the hunt for FTFs.

in reply to: Archiving caches #1761478

    Hi TATB,

Thanks a lot for your efforts in archiving caches that have gone bad. I have done this too, but usually start off by emailing the owner.

I had an interesting experience in requesting a Minnesota cache be archived. It was in a great location, but the cache was gone. I looked for 45 minutes and found where an (illegal) I bolt was bolted into a tree where the cache once was. There had been 4 previous DNFs and supposedly there was a jeep in the cache.

Anyway, I posted a please archive, and it was archived the next day. Well, I received the angriest email that you can imagine from a MN cacher who just chewed me out royally for my presumption of coming into their territory and requesting a cache be archived, when it was clearly gone. She claimed the owner was ill, and it would be replaced soon.

Anyway, the owner was more than just ill, since I had happened to learn that the owner had died several months previously.

Anyway, the point of my story is to keep up the good work, but dont be surprized if you get a little flak along the way.

in reply to: GC.com server problems? 3/31/06 #1761252

    Hi,

I have been having a lot of trouble logging onto gc.com for the past week. When I submitted my new caches, it just ate them, so I had to rewrite them several times. After a few lost writeups, I learned to cut and paste before hitting submit.

I also had trouble grabbing a coin. It logged the grab, but didnt add it to my inventory. It took a day before I tried again, and had to grab it again.

I get the feeling that the popularity of the website has grown beyond what the current hardware can support.

in reply to: It is about the numbers ! #1761341

Here in Eau Claire, I have 2638 available within 100 miles.

Filtering out finds and owned, I have 1378 available within 100 miles, and about 1200 of those are metro Twin Cities.

I have just one to find within 40 miles, a new one placed 15 miles away last week. I have 16 to find within 50 miles.

Interesting thread, Marc, though ya know, it aint bout the numbers. 😉

in reply to: make more they will come #1741819

    Hi all,

PCfrog is right…there are a lot of great caches in his neck of the woods. I recently did a bunch of them, and enjoyed them all. Cataract and Soper Falls are highly reccomended.

As to the geocoins, I was lucky enough to find 2 of them, and do plan on placing them asap in another cache, so the will remain in circulation, at least for awhile.

Sorry, I was a little tardy in doing the logging. I got a little behind in logging finds, what with the long weekend doing BoB’s in Illinois with Team Honeybunnies and onesearching2find, and then working 12 hour night shifts this last week.

Thanks a lot Team Deejay and Team Geopink on working on the honorable mention list. I think that was a great idea, and a real asset to the geocaching community.

I think the honorable mention list can be helpful in identifying “quality” caches. I know quality is very subjective, and we probably all have differing opinions of what makes for a quality cache, depending on our personal preferences. However, it does mean that at least someone thought a cache on the list was high quality, and hopefully we will like it too.

Again, thanks a lot Geopink and Deejay for making this happen.

    It is all one cache.

Interestingly, some hospitals also make a big deal of cell phone use, citing “interference with life saving equipment.” St Joes in Marshfield for example wont allow cell phones anywhere in the hospital, lest a patient be killed by them.

On the other hand, other hospitals allow them, without any apparent adverse effects. It is amazing how once a myth gets started, it gets perpetuated as fact.
