Originally the WGA had a loose definition of a member: Anyone who participated in geocaching in the state of Wisconsin was considered a member. With growth and maturity cames some necessary formalization, including bylaws, incorporation, elections, and changes in membership policies.
Why become a WGA Member?Three reasons come to mind: Ownership, Control, and Strength. By becoming a member, you show your support and ownership of the principles behind the WGA, you exercise control by electing the board of directors and perhaps serving on the board, and you help strengthen the association by identifying with it. As we have been working with property managers and other organizations such as the state DNR, one valid question we have been asked is for some assurance that we actually do speak for Wisconsin geocachers. By becoming a member, you are affirming that you support and are aligned with the work of the association. As such, we feel it is important to get the membership involved in the running of the organization through an elected board that represents the members. Membership Requirements
WGA FriendsIf you do not meet the membership requirements above, or if you don’t want to provide us with the information necessary to verify you are eligible to be a member, you can sign up as a WGA friend. A WGA friend can use all the services of the WGA website and can participate in all WGA activities except voting in Board elections and on referendums. To create a WGA friend user account, follow the normal account creation process outlined below. How To Become A Member Or FriendTo register as a WGA member or friend, you must have a user account on the wi-geocaching.com web site, so if you don’t, click here to create one. During the account creation process, you will be asked about your interest in and eligibility for WGA membership. If you meet our eligibility requirements, you will be asked to enter your membership information. If not, a WGA friend user account will be created. Policy Regarding Membership DataYou may have looked at the registration form and might have some concerns regarding some of the data we are requesting.
