The membership committee has added a new focus, and we are looking for your help to decide which direction to go. Please help us by voting in this poll, and posting why you voted the way you did.
Thank you
08/13/2010 at 2:58 pm #1934396All 3 are equally important in ANY organization.
New members show growth and bring new ideas to the group…
…retaining membership numbers shows consistency with the decisions that have been enacted…
…showing “lost members” that their input is missed is vital!
If the Membership Committee has 7 members (?), 2 should work on each area, with the Chairperson keeping the General membership informed of their work.
Referring membership in the WGA should be the responsibility of EVERY member! 😀
08/13/2010 at 3:01 pm #1934397I voted all of the above. While that may seem like a cop-out, it seems logical that in order for an organization to survive, you have to do continually get new members with new ideas (and if money is involved, a new source of revenue). But who wants to be a part of an organization that only cares about getting bigger and not serving the members it already has, right? So of course you have to do what you can to listen to your current members and do what you can to keep them. And in the interest of continual improvement, you have to seek to bring back the lost members. Or at the very least, find out why they left and see if it is something that needs to be addressed by the organization. We have all had bad experiences in service in retail or workplaces or entertainment. Maybe we didn’t go back to those places, or maybe we just told others not to go there. Or maybe we still go, because we don’t have much else for options.
The WGA should focus on all areas of improvement in member service. Chances are there will be fewer of those who leave if the other areas are continuously improved.
That said, I am very happy with my WGA membership and glad that those who serve are doing an excellent job, in my opinion.
08/13/2010 at 5:03 pm #1934398I selected “all of the above,” yet I really think that new membership and retaining membership are the two most important of all.
Trying to bring back “lost” members may be a waste of resources. They chose to leave for whatever reason. If at some time in the future they wish to return, they will. Sure, it may have been the clubs fault they left, but that just means we learn from our mistakes and prevent them from happening again (part of retaining current members.)08/13/2010 at 5:15 pm #1934399I voted for retaining current members because if the current membership is happy and involved with the organization, they will bring in new recruits. While I don’t think the WGA should ignore new or previous members, if we keep the cachers we have we will inevitably continue to grow.
I think the WGA is a great resource, so when I’ve introduced friends and family to geocaching I make sure to mention the group. I encourage them to check out a group in their local area if possible as well.

08/17/2010 at 3:38 pm #1934401there all equaly important. We in the Izaak Walton leauge of america has the same issuses as all other orginazations tring to get new member and keeping old and finding lost members. It is important to find new blood cause the older members might not be in the org. forever…
08/17/2010 at 6:51 pm #1934402I voted for all of the above … but I too feel most effort should go into new members and retaining current. I would think in many cases efforts to retain would tend to bring back old … unless they’re super upset about something, in which my experiences it would be difficult to get them back with a limited amount of resources (if it would even be possible at all).
08/27/2010 at 10:38 pm #1934403I agree that bringing in new and retaining current are most important. If I could have voted for just those two I would have. (Actually, I didn’t try it to see if I could mark two choices…)
08/28/2010 at 3:41 pm #1934404I agree with Beezers, I think the first two are the most important. If people don’t stay current here, is probably due to losing interest in caching, moving, or other life factors. I think would make it sort of a waste of time to chase after people. If they were interested in it, they would stay current. Just MY opinion. 😀
