I’m happy π W00t!
I was lucky enough to find someone (using the Groundspeak forums) that would part with this fine specimen:
It was produced (before my time as a geocacher) by the WGA as a fundraiser for the Geo-Campout in Peninsula State Park in 2006. From what I hear, the weather for that particular event was miserable. But this coin is very shiny. I like shiny.
It’s fun to have another piece of WGA history in my collection. I’ve found it’s pretty tough to get some of these older coins.
One more to go… Now that one might be a bit tougher π

The one that can’t be bought. π

Totally lost on this one π
09/09/2010 at 6:26 pm #1935726glorkar – There is a very limited edition 2-Tone metal version (individually numbered) of the first WGA Geocoin that was produced in 2005. It has not been sold.
The board can opt (by majority vote) to recognize someone by giving them this coin. To those that have received one, it’s probably worth a whole lot more to them than a Geocoin. It’s not rewarded to past board members just for being a board member. There’s a plaque for that recognition. It’s more of a special recognition.
We keep trying to give Team Deejay one for creating the lonely cache game but he say’s he’s not into coins…

RJ – I’ll bring it to the picnic.
One interesting thing about this coin is it seems to be the first coin that I am actually second guessing whether to activate or not. I’ve always activated all coins in my collection but it seems “wrong” to activate this one for some reason…
09/09/2010 at 8:17 pm #1935727To de-clarify a little bit…..
The lighthouse coin was *not* produced by the WGA, but instead by a board member (LightningBugs Mum).
She graciously donated all profits generated by the coin sales to the WGA, but fronting the money to produce it, as well as selling it was all her gig.
I purchased two of these coins from her and donated them to the WGA to keep as part of our history, as the WGA (at the time) had none of them.
