High Cliff State Park: WGA State Park Series

HIGH CLIFF STATE PARK

The land for High Cliff State Park was purchased by Wisconsin in 1956 and opened the park in 1957. Even before High Cliff became a state park, the land had a rich natural and cultural history. It is the only state-owned recreational area on Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin’s largest lake. Its name comes from the limestone cliff of the Niagara Escarpment, which parallels the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago.

The magnificent 12-foot statue of Winnebago Indian Chief Red Bird, standing high on a huge granite rock, overlooks the lake and is a popular destination in the park. From the vantage point of the limestone cliffs and even further above on the Lookout Tower in the Upper Park, visitors can see for more than 30 miles to the north, west, and south.

High Cliff State Park requires a fee to get in and enjoy the park. It is $7 per day or $25 for an annual pass for Wisconsin residents. Please visit here for the current fee schedule: http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/admission.html
