New deadline: August 31, 2020 In response to COVID-19, Geocaching HQ is extending the deadline to August 31, 2020 for all Adventure Labs to go public. We will monitor changes over the next few months, to see if we need to make further adjustments. There is no need to write in to request an extension.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and the need to socially distance ourselves from others, and with the health and safety of all in mind, the Dodge County Parks Department has decided to cancel all shelter reservations and prohibit group events in the parks through the month of May. As a result of this decision, the WGA will not be able to hold the Spring Campout on the weekend of May 15 – 17 as planned. At this time, the board of directors does not have an alternative plan. We will be working on a response to the cancellation of this traditional event. Stay tuned for further information as it becomes available.
Just received this message from our awesome reviewer team in regards to the COVID-19.
As the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) situation continues to evolve, there have been increased directives and recommendations from government and health authorities emphasizing that unnecessary events, gatherings and group activities be avoided, cancelled and/or rescheduled. Today the Trump administration recommended that people congregate in groups of no more than 10. As we are a smaller part of the global community – we would not be best served with Events/CITOs that promote social gatherings at a time when social distancing is emphasized to be a key factor in the control of COVID-19.
Again in respect of the current situation, the Wisconsin reviewing team will not be Publishing Events/CITOs for at least the next 30 days and then going forward only if conditions and government recommendations allow it.
The WGA BOD is very disappointed to report that the LCG event to be held at the Horicon Marsh Visitors Center on March, 21, 2020 is canceled due to the rising concern of the coronavirus or COVID-19. The Horicon Marsh Visitor Center contacted us today to say the WDNR has put any group events and activities on hold until the threat is over. As of current we still plan on having the LCG event on May 16 or 17 at the annual 2020 Spring Campout. More details will be coming in the coming weeks. Once again we are very sorry for the inconvenience. Any questions feel free to contact one of the BOD members. Thank you
Have a look at what we discussed during the second meeting of the new board! It was a busy meeting despite having just met in person a week prior. Topics this month included Spring Campout planning, priorities for improving the WGA website, member participation in committees, and potential changes to the Lonely Cache Game. Check it out!
Have you ever played the WGA Lonely Cache Game? Have you
ever heard of the WGA Lonely Cache Game? The WGA began using the Lonely Cache
Game on January 1, 2008, as a way to encourage members to visit caches that
have not been found for a long period of time. When I started playing the LCG
in 2010, it was not uncommon for caches on the list to have been lonely for
less than a year. Today our list of 500 caches have almost all been unfound for
4 years or more. Geocaching has changed a lot in the past 12 years, but the LCG
has remained relatively unchanged. The combination of these factors has
resulted in fewer people playing the game each year.
The BoD has been discussing this, and asking how we can refresh the LCG to build more interest, and subsequently get many of these old caches back in play, or if they are unfound because they are missing, either repaired/replaced or removed from the game board altogether. In this interest, we have decided to form a committee to devise a plan to revitalize the LCG in the best interests of all WGA members across the state. The committee will consist of two board members and 3 members-at-large. If you are interested in participating on this committee, please contact the committee chair, Jim Peterson (bigjim60) by private message or e-mail [email protected]
